It's easiest to just say they're both amphibians.

As for the tags, I think that Char:toad and toad_(species) would be sufficient.
Or the other way around, but there's no reason that we can't make one or the other just "toad".

I would say make "toad" (unappended) be the species and "toad_(mario)" be the mushroom-headed shorties. That, to me, seems the most sensical, since anyone looking for "toad" is likely going to be looking for the amphibian.
