In what appears to be a rerun of Artist vs. Neopet, Pteri (currently an artist tag) appears to be implicating Neopets-related tags (due to the Pteri species).

Since pteri (neopets) already exists as a tag ( post #1583400 , post #1764420 , and post #4517140 ) would it be possible to just remove the neopet_(species) implication from the artist tag? That would be the easiest way to handle the situation.

this seems to be the result of someone unceremoniously changing the species tag. AFAICT all the posts currently tagged pteri are for the artist, so that should be aliased to either pteri_(artist) after the unimplication, unless we wanna disambiguate it.

Note that the three posts I listed are the only three using the species tag.

Unlike the last time this happened (with zafara_(artist)/zafara_(neopets)) Pteri isn't a species that gets a lot of fanart, so I would imagine the artist tag could get away without a dab.

it doesn't matter how much fanart or posts they have, mistags between the artist and the species can continue happening unless we disambiguate them by using suffixes. since there's actually three tags all named pteri, the aforementioned and pteri_(pteri), we should consider making the unsuffixed tag into pteri_(artist) to help prevent further accidents.

I'm inclined to agree with Siral Exan. The best course of action is to retag all of Pteri's art with pteri_(artist), and then disambiguate, alias away, or just abandon plain old pteri.
