Topic: Uploading fixed alternate image that has an advertisement on it

Posted under General

Not entirely sure what the rules are about this, so I figured it would be best to ask. There is an image I want to upload from an artist that already has had many of their images uploaded here. However, in the image I want to upload the artist made a mistake and forgot some details on one of the characters. They also posted a fixed version, but the fixed version isn't just the image alone and also has an advertisement attached to the bottom of it. Would there be any condition I can upload the fixed version? I assume that I would not be allowed to alter the image by cutting out the advertisement, but also would not be allowed to post an image that has an advertisement on it. Would I only be allowed to post the original version that had the missing details on one of the characters in this case? Or would I be allowed to crop the ad or just post the fixed image with the ad intact?

Ads are kind of iffy. Is it SPECIFICALLY just an ad? Or is it like the credits on a comic book's legal page? i.e. "Go to Fanbox to get content early and different versions!"

user:alphamule advertisement See these two examples for ones that were approved.
advertisement status:deleted See these for examples that were (mostly) unapproved. Some were removed for other reasons. This one is still available at the source, for you to compare: post #3546048

It's advertising buying prints of some of the artists' other images, the ad is on the bottom of the main image.

Do not under any circumstances edit an artist's artwork to remove elements that credits or promotes the artist.

Advertisements on artworks are allowed as long as they do not outweigh the artistic value of the artwork entirely (see Uploading Guidelines and Advertisement for more info).
Basically, if it is not obnoxiously in-your-face about it (e.g., plastered all over the artwork, censoring/taking up major chunks of it) or being used as a WIP preview for YCHs/auctions, then it's fine.

In your case, you may upload the first "unfixed" version then upload the second "fixed" version to act as a child to the first one.
Alternatively, you may ask the artist themselves if there is a "fixed" version without all the ads or search through their other galleries and hope that they had posted it clean.

Thanks, went ahead and uploaded them both linking the original as the parent. Hope the image is still within the guidelines even with the ad.

The ad isn’t impeding onto the artwork, but taking up half of the image and really contrasts with the artwork. The advertising part also doesn’t credit the artist, because it relies on having a link in the desc or something.
I’m unsure it should’ve been left in. Oops!

I see. Although from my understanding even in this case it would still be against the rules to have cut out the ad from the image right? So my only option was to either upload both and link them and hope it's acceptable or not upload the fixed version at all.
