When I realized my mistake I uploaded the correct one and flagged my previous post for removal.

Yet I still got a penalty. That doesn’t seem very fair to me…

Unless you're making the same mistake over and over a 1/4th deletion penalty shouldn't matter, but also the functionality to delete without penalty does not exist.
You'll need Replacements for that (but also a replacement approver will probably choose to penalize you anyway without checking, penalize you if a better version was already available by the time you uploaded, etc.)

The best option is not posting and let the art be lost to time :v

Bah, you're thinking too short-term. The best option is to upload more images to annihilate any such negative points. Big numbers win!

The penalty in this case is only 0.05, so it should not be a problem. Sometimes I post a smaller image by mistake, because I have many source tabs open at the same time.

Lol this is how to do it. I'm not really concerned about deletions anymore, my upload limit is high enough i'll never hit it anyway.
