Topic: undo bad tag alias

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #5603 has been rejected.

remove alias animatic (17) -> crittermatic (294)

Reason: https://e621.net/tickets/133906

Step 2 would either be
#Keep animatic as-is and use the tag.
#Alias it to invalid_tag.
#Change the category to invalid.

I've always thought the animatic to crittermatic alias was silly, especially because animatic is an actual word used by professional animators.

I'd argue re-aliasing animatic to slideshow, since slideshow as a tag seems to fulfill a similar function to an animatic. The differences between an animatic and a slideshow are too small to justify having two different tags imo, but if they aren't to others, you can have animatic or slideshow imply one or the other.

The alternative is that DNP content may go unnoticed.

At least this way, any false positives can be removed.

There are so many things wrong in this comment.

#1. Setting the precedent that ultra generic names for artists are allowed is wrong. This thread is an example of that with an artist named eight.

#2. Users can intentionally omit or add an incorrect artist name and so dnp doesn't stick either, but those folks get caught red-handed all the time. See feedback.

#3. It requires the involvement of an admin who might wanna do something other than to fix simple mess like that.

#4. Invert the perspective of your first point, what if someone adds animatic which turns into crittermatic, but it goes unnoticed? I wonder how many posts are under this artist tag that shouln't be there. Animatic is simply too popular of a term in the furry community to have zero chance of being misapplied to posts.
Actually, I'll let you take a gander at this: https://e621.net/post_versions?commit=Search&search%5Bexclude_uploads%5D=0&search%5Btags_removed%5D=crittermatic

Yeah this alias makes no sense at all, any artist with a generic one word name should be tagged as name_(artist), animatic is a legitimate term, and very likely to crop up on a site dedicated to art posting.

Shades of thewielder aka forge, also once having a common term aliased to a DNP artist. A previous discussion on the matter had admins saying

Having an artist tag like "forge" points us in a direction and drastically cuts on possibilities, hence why we prefer the salted earth approach in these situations.

That for cases of (C)DNP artists it's better to have some incorrect avoid_posting/conditional_dnps being ticketed and manually cleaned up, than the artist tag being missed and the piece not being caught as (C)DNP. Although they did ultimately undo the forge alias, so I don't know where the line may be here.

Don't like it personally
To take the slippery-slopiest extreme there's way too much wiggle room for people to release a handful of artworks under the handles of say balls, biped, or lyingall top-page General tags, get them uploaded to e6, then immediately pull the DNP card to force the site to either relocate those general tags to a bracketed-suffix or double-standard the whole thing.
