Topic: Question regarding site features

Posted under e621 Tools and Applications

Howdy. I've been around a while on e621 but never participated in much of the interactive sides of things (Besides favoriting and tagging). That said, I've noticed a glaring difference in this booru compared to many others-

Why isn't the "Uploader:" displayed on posts? Can I change something in settings to allow visibility of this? Is there something I can add to my CSS to restore visibility of this?

I checked wiki #1638 but couldn't find anything specifically mentioning why the feature is absent.

It was primarily hidden because people kept making the mistake of assuming the uploader was the artist, or that the uploader was trying to take credit for the artwork.

There wouldn't be any way to show it by modifying your CSS, but a userscript would be able to reveal it. The ID for the uploader is still returned in the JSON endpoint, e.g. https://e621.net/posts/4285678.json has "uploader_id":601225 - my user ID.

Note that the uploader_id is updated when somebody replaces a file, so it's not necessarily the original uploader. The original uploader can be viewed in the post change history or the replacements history.

It was deliberately removed because uploaders were being silly.
People who regularly uploaded artwork made by popular artists grew huge egos and got into slapfights with each other over being the first one to upload.
Not only that, but other users were occasionally confused by the uploader and artist names not matching due this being a booru site and not a gallery one.

Thus, the name of the uploader was removed from the post page.
I don't know if it worked all too well. The Numeroth debacle still happened, and there are still occasional accusations of "art theft".

@faucet Thank you. Though I'm not knowledgeable in making scripts, it's appreciated to have this for reference. It's kinda beans that it changes though.
