I know of an artist who seems to only post on reddit. Is that an okay source to use or do I need to find another source option?

Might not be the best for image quality, but it's as valid of a source as any.

Sometimes the Reddit source is actually best available. IME, Reddit has compared favorably to ArtStation posts, even with the "4k" URL edit. Sometimes, it's just site 1's compression vs site 2's compression, and Reddit is better than, say, Twitter. Also, in cases of multiple source sites, I don't remember coming up against Reddit's resolution limits before hitting the res caps elsewhere.

If the artist you're looking into posts on Reddit and you haven't found a "full quality" gallery of theirs, then I recommend digging into their Reddit and doing a quality comparison. Even if you've found a superior quality gallery elsewhere, you can still find art that the artist only seemed to post on Reddit, often from their "before times" (before opening their Twitter, Pixiv, ArtStation, etc) or pieces the artist may consider unfinished or below the polish of their more "official" ArtStation or Twitter accounts.

Don't scoff at Reddit as a source, especially for professional SFW artists. What's more, I've found that Reddit is an undisclosed source/"gallery" for those artists. They won't mention their Reddit account in their bios or links elsewhere as an alternative gallery site, but they do have a presence on Reddit and in fact, based on their post scores, seem to have the best reach and appreciation on Reddit. Reddit-only art is quite at risk of being lost to time.
