The parody tag is described as being applicable when something is "humorously imitated". That's all well and good, but should the thing being parodied also be tagged? It's unclear to me whether that violates TWYS since it could be argued that the thing being parodied is in the image, just in the form of a parody. Whatever the answer, it might be useful to add that to the wiki page for parody so that it can be easily looked up.
Regardless, I'm less interested in a binary "yes" or "no", and more interested on what's a substantial enough depiction to warrant tagging something. Since right now the criteria seem fairly vague going by existing posts, and in some cases usage appears contradictory. So it's very difficult to draw a conclusion just by looking at what's already there.
1. When should a copyright tag be used?
This one is tagged as being related to jojo's bizarre adventure, which makes sense to me.
But on the other hand, the image below is a fairly accurate reproduction of an event from Gundam Reconguista in G, yet there doesn't seem to be a tag for it. Is there a difference, or is the difference just that in this case, this meme / parody is not popular enough to warrant its own tag?
2. When should a character tag be used?
This post is not tagged with dio brando or jotaro kujo even though these characters are clearly acting out those roles.
On the other hand, this one is tagged willy wonka.
To split the difference, this is tagged peter griffin, even though it's just loona (helluva_boss). But I suppose it's hard to argue that it doesn't look like Peter Griffin, so fair enough.
And to go all the way, this post is tagged pacha (the emperor's new groove). It's not even the same style. It's just the same pose. There's nothing identifiable that remains of Pacha in this image, other than that he happened to make the same gesture at one point.
Yet at the same time, this is seemingly not enough to tag dio brando, even though it's arguably on the same level as the Loona image. it was me dio is tagged, though.
