Topic: yonkagor_(copyright) proper use?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Alright, so recently I and LilyaNida have disagreed on the proper use of the copyright tag yonkagor_(copyright) and I was hoping some one could help clear thing up.

About 2 months ago LilyaNida tried to imply a bunch of Yonkagor's characters to younkagor_(copyright) but it was denied by gattonero2001. (forum #365672)

LilyaNida then went on to remove all younkagor_(copyright) tags from active post. I later replaced them (at the time thinking it was tagging vandalism (sorry)) only for them to be re-removed. LilyaNida then sent me a PM witch said:

Copyright tag is only for whenever there is music from yonkagor

There was a misunderstanding for the tag being used in yonkagor characters so please use it correctly

I disagree, citing a bunch of other copyright tags that apply to both 'official' and fan made post. particularly Scratch21 for they are also a music group.

Other examples.

So, that's where we are at. Any feedback or clarification on this would be helpful. Thanks.

all of these are part of sort of a "brand", chikin nuggit is actually owned by buzzfeed and kyrakupetsky is just the creator/part of the animation team of the web series, therefor chikin nuggit deserves it's own tag because it is it's own thing, it's part of somesort of a brand, just like you see undertale characters being from undertale tag and not "toby 'radiation' fox", not to let aside helluva boss which is part of the hazbin hotel universe with both made by vivzmind but still deserves it's own tag because it is a series for both

and all of these are alright besides one which is aimkid copyright tag, which it's just stuff from aimkid and the most reason the tag can be applicable is if people makes art or upload art that have the same style of aimkid, that could be somewhat applicable, instead it's actually both with some art being references of the music videos made by aimkid, which that you can argue with a staff about it

if you want to get on frisky ferals, it is it's own universe therefor fit for a copyright tag, i could make other examples but i don't remember quite exactly the tags but i do remember fanmade universes can have it's own tag almost just underswap or underfell have their own tags

the tag of yonkagor_(copyright) was primarily made for yonkagor characters which shouldn't be applicable because the characters already have the ownership on the second part of the tag which a example is tetra_(yonkagor) tetra being the name of the character and in "()" being who owns the character therefor if you really want to see all of the fanart just search *_(yonkagor) that will show every character that yonkagor owns, it was my mistake because i was the one to first create the tag but after some complications i had with yonkagor and sadly with yonkagor fanbase i was tasked privately to remove all of it and just let it be

That's why the tags were removed and the others mentioned by you are ok to exist

Even if I'm sure 100% with all I said it's better to ask for an admin's assistence on all of this so you can have a proper answer

Alright, so now that some time has passed, I was hoping for some one else to chime in on this discussion. *sigh* Looks like it's just you and me... Oh well... *Ahem* Right! So you say that most of the things I've listed are part of a "brand" and therefor should have a copyright tag. That seems reasonable to me. This is also supported by the e621 official wiki.

e621 tags

copyright
Any recognizable brands and franchises (as well as the companies who own them) that can be identified through the use of their characters, settings, or other recognizable elements.
Parodies of copyrights are also tagged with the copyrights that a post is parodying. Specific holidays like Christmas, Easter, and Halloween are also given copyright status.

The real world is also a copyright tag, for what it's worth.

So the natural question becomes, what is a brand / franchise? And dose the works that Yonkagor has made count? I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure. Companies outside of e621 that sell there work for profit I feel are easy candidate for the yes category. Things like Disney, or Nintendo, or even smaller works like Undertale. But when it comes to smaller creators just making things for fun, the line get blurry. I bring up Scratch21 because they seem to be the most apples to apples compared to Yonkagor. They both are small music groups with a moderate fallowing on YouTube. Yet one has a copyright tag while the other doesn't. How odd...

Now on the flip side of the coin, there is foxes_in_love by an artist of the same name. This is a well established series, and yet, no copyright tag. Hmmm? And the plot thickens. For right now, I'll just say I don't have all of the answers. This is something I shall ponder upon further.

...

Regarding the name_(name) format. I was under the impression that this was just a workaround for when two distinct things share the same or similar names. Such as Pokemon and Pokemon_(species) or when you need to clarify a tag such as Twilight_sparkle_(mlp) or Male_(lore). Honestly, it often times feels like there's no rhyme or reason why a tag get a _() or not. As an example Dakkawolf has his main OC Dakka, And his mirror Akkad_(dakkawoof). But why not Dakka_(dakkawolf), or just Akkad? Beats me. Also pink_(pink) is also a thing... *sigh* At least you had the decency to give all of Yonkagor's cats the _(Yonkagor) treatment. Thank god for consistency! Hallelujah!

...

Anyway, I've rambled on for a bit. I think for right now, I'll leave the tags as you have them. There's no point in doing busy work while the jury is still out. Again, I was hoping that this forum post would bring in a fresh set of eyes. Some one as the tie braker sort of speak. As it is, it's just my word agents yours. And I don't think ether of us is qualified to make the final call.

That is the case, yes. Tags are not supposed to have a _(...) suffix if they're unique enough on their own, or when it's a clearly dominant/primary use (e.g. grass doesn't need to be grass_(plant) just because there may be an artist or obscure character named Grass somewhere). This is done on a tag-by-tag basis, which does mean characters in a series or characters owned by the same person can sometimes have a suffix and sometimes not, depending if the given tag needs one (e.g. hypno_(pokemon) needs a suffix to distinguish it from general hypnosis, while pikachu doesn't).

But tags are created by users. They may not be aware of these guidelines, or think something is or isn't unique enough to need a suffix, so may add one when it isn't needed or not add one when it should have one. In such cases, it's up to us to spot them and make proper aliases/disambiguations as necessary.
