Topic: Nezumi making a sequel to Inuman. Woo!

Posted under Art Talk

Nezumi already has a sequel to Inhuman coming. It appears that the female protagonist has regained the ability to transform. At least into more anthro. My guess is that it will be released in Ore no Fuyu 2014, Tojyo's new project given its focus of deity canines :p

The demo pics looks kinda gross, but neat for her fans, I guess.

Correction, Inuman 2 is going to be included in the upcoming Kemokko Lovers 5. Mayoineko recently released a preview of the cover and a list of contributing authors.

Yeah, she has a very.. interesting style. A lot of her art is very prolapsy. (new word)

I really enjoy the ones that are a bit tamer.

She draws naughty bits in a very... elastic fashion. Personally, I like the demo pics, but I know Nezumi is a touch controversial.

Why do people still think Nezumi is female? That rumor was started years ago and there's never been any proof, and I can't read moon.

I have no idea what gender he/she is. I just saw someone else say she and I assumed they were right lol.

Yes, that's how it usually goes.

Probably referring to "moonspeak" which is a derogatory slang term for anything which isn't english and therefore "might as well be speaking moon". Often used for languages which use a different alphabet than English, like Japanese.

Huh?

If you're referring to me, I'm not triggered at all. I'm just bemused at the fact that the term 'moonspeak' and its implications are things that exist. I'm honestly not mad or anything - and that's without any sarcasm ._.

Nah man, not poking fun at ya.
Just making a jab at the general tumblr crowd who would've found that offensive.

Why would it matter what gender the artist is anyway? Would people be scared to be obsessed with a male artist or something?

What I find people tend to be afraid of is not having a gender to call somebody or something. I mean, look at us, we call ships by female terms!
Kinda funny how we do that, and yet anything that refers to people in general gets a male term.

I had read that singular "they" lowers general reading comprehension of a sentence (IIRC, it was around 11% lower), which is probably our best solution to the issue. Regardless, I would rather sacrifice reading comprehension than write with an assumptive gender bias, because I always found it distracting when an author reveals a character's gender through narration that was previously unknown, depending on the type of narration of course. Even in normal discourse, it's awkward if not outright rude when one (incorrectly) assumes someone else's gender.

Given many observations over the years, I have grown to expect most writers to self-insert their own gender when describing someone of unknown gender, presumably because a person's mind would sooner drift toward the familiar than the alien. Unfortunately, I've always found it a bit disheartening when female writers just give up on that tendency and write toward a male bias unless gender is explicitly revealed, although that's to be expected from female writers born in the 1800s given their social status at the time. We could speculate that our current gender bias in writing and therefore reading comprehension are relics from such times of rare gender equality. Thus, we could further speculate that the situation will improve to reflect modern standards of equality as more people are exposed to new age idea(l)s, replacing the old guard's status quo.

As for genders assigned to things, they seem to be the author's (character's) affectionate caricature of that thing's qualities, likened to the gender those qualities seem to more stereotypically represent. In your example, a captain of a ship or perhaps any naval officer may affectionately refer to a ship as a woman because, in their eyes, the ship is beautiful or something that requires gentle coaxing or "love". On the other side of the coin, the ship could be thought of as groaning and dirty, a workhorse, or a gnarly beast and would therefore more likely be referred to as a man. It's up to the author which way they want to develop their character, or non-author writer/speaker which way they choose to represent the thing. In contrast to my conclusion in the previous paragraph, these "less harmful" stereotypes may be more at odds with reaching true gender equality because they rely on more deeply entrenched gender biases. On that note, I'll end this with one parting idea: the moment humanity reaches true gender equality in thought is the moment we become a genderless race.

Some people don't believe in the singular they and prefer to use he/she, (s)he, himself or herself, etc. in place of it for some reason I never could understand. Personally I find it only brings attention to the ambiguity of their gender when it doesn't particularly matter that much for the meaning of the sentence (unless you happen to be talking about the gender in the first place). "I really like that artist, he or she really knows how to express himself or herself" is just far too awkward to read for me and mentioning gender at all is pretty much unnecessary.

But yeah, back on topic. Those naughty bits. They are sure strange looking.

I didn't even know the first part even existed until just now. This looks pretty cool.

Either that's untrue or I've been lucky enough to avoid a random check for every furry doujinshi I've imported thus far, including this one.

I ordered my copy of Kemokko Lovers 5 from AliceBooks, here. If you're going to order the book, I'd recommend doing it from there since the price is lower, they accept PayPal, and they offer international shipping, removing the need to use a proxy service.

Be warned, though, that EMS shipping for this book cost me over $30, raising the total cost to around just under $75 USD.

Thanks for the heads up. I've just seen it reported that those who've tried to order it have lost the product to customs.
