Requested feature overview description.
The help text for the artist verification feature is currently on the /help/staff page, which may not be the most obvious place in the world. I think it should also be linked from the main help page , probably under a title like "Artist Verification". It may also be be useful to link it from the site map page, maybe as a link called "Verification" under the "Artists" heading.

Why would it be useful?
It would make the information easier to find when needed.

I recently wanted to give that information to an artist, but I had to click around for a while until I found where it was. The "staff" page seems like sort of an odd place for it, at least to me.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
The help page and maybe the site map page .

+1 I've talked to lots of artists who upload their own work who have absolutely no idea that this is a feature, because it's so hidden

Possibly a good idea to put it on the signup form? Or send a private message on creating a new account like some sites do with administrative notices?

A message might be overkill, the ratio of artists to regular users is massively skewed towards the users.

Something short, like Get artist verification and have at least the word "verification" link to new621:artist verification now that it exists as a separate wiki.

After a lot of poking around, I've seen that we actually have a huge amount of artist uploaders now. Very few are verified, and I'd bet it's mostly because they don't know it's possible now. I'd rather get a bunch of these guys verified than fret over a speck of bloat.

Add a mention to the user Settings page too. In Basic, right of Commission Info seems very appropriate. Or above that input box, something like Artist verification status: [not verified/verified]. Very common for users to set up their profile at least once, and change it over time. Hell, even throw up a little colored^NEW! beside the verification call to actions. I want them verifications.

In meantime, I'll mention it to artists as I see them. That might be best if it's just a link like you said above. Making it obvious to the very people that will likely be the ones wanting to do it (if they knew they could!).

For the record, staff does make an attempt to regularly contact artists about verification (we've got a fancy list)

A modest bump, in light of the most recent news update promoting the verification feature.

+1, it really needs to be more prominent. I agree with @abadbird that we should put it on the upload form (though of course there's no "im the source" button anymore)

The site also brought back the Uploader names above the Approver names.

It appears to only pop up for verified users, similar to the checkmark next to the artist name.
