Topic: Tag Implication: chibi -> cute

I'm not sure about this. While chibi is a cute drawing style, an image including a chibi is not necessarily cute. For example, should an image like this be tagged cute?

Nah, it's still cute. She's trying to be scary! :3

I don't know that I'd tag that as chibi, but hitting "previous" still amused me, so that's okay.

I'd still consider that cute, but there are bound to be other exceptions, you're right.

On an unrelated note, going to the FA source for that one reminded me of why I appreciate having no roleplaying here. -.-

Denied because although some chibis are cute, not all are cute. The style often is cute-ish, but is not exclusive to just being cute. And many are borderline in cuteness: the style is a little cute, but is it all that pronounced or only sorta? The cute tag tends to suffer from casually being tagged on anything that comes even close to cuteness sometimes (including 'my character is just so cute because they're shy so I will add the cute tag so that everyone will see it' type of stuff that sometimes needs cleaned up). The trouble comes because it is a somewhat subjective tag. However, it's been kept because there still is a range of cute that is pretty widely agreed upon as being very emphasizedly cute, which pulls it into enough of an objective category that it can work as a tag. And it is useful for searching and valued by people to have. But it has to be treated carefully to keep the more subjective "I think this is a little cute"/only sorta cute/ etc type of stuff to a minimum in order to keep the tag useful. I think there was even a plan to rename it at some point in order to try and emphasize that but it never got done. I forget the details of it.

But anyways, because of that, to create an implication which forced the cute tag on a whole bunch of things which may or may not be especially or notably cute would probably have an adverse effect on how useful the cute tag is. So that's the other reason why I'm denying this implication.

Just gonna point out, chibi is a slang term that translates to "little". For otaku it's used for the "super deformed" art style. This style is normally one where the character has a rather tiny body with a large head.

Yes. I would tag that one with funny as well.

By the way, that looks like Sherry Birkin. :P
