Topic: Tag Alias: black_and_white -> greyscale

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Reason:

Because I give up trying to fix these.

These are constantly confused with each other, a lot of people mix them up, and our current meaning of black and white is technically within the range of greyscale anyways. In other words, technically speaking black_and_white should imply greyscale.

In real world usage however, the term "black and white" is very commonly used as a name for certain "non-colored" things like old photographs and televisions, which would technically be greyscale by our usage. This is causing a good bit of the mistagging, but I've seen them both ways.

Lastly, I don't see enough reason to make a distinction here anyways. The purposes of the tags overlap since they are a way to refer to "non-colored" art, regardless of the technical differences.

Semi-related: I wanted to request a convenience shortcut alias bnw -> black_and_white/greyscale if that's alright (it's unused at the moment, but I thought I'd ask). Never mind, baw should work fine.

That's a pretty good reason. While I like the greyscale tag, these tend to require unreasonable amount of upkeep...

There's actually not that many users who constantly mix those up, but some are frequent uploaders of doujinshi scans. Which means that dozens of those get mistagged in one go.

Though those tags tend to be messy even without black_and_white <> greyscale. For instance, these are currently tagged as greyscale:

Full color, blue_and_white, and sepia. And I've cleaned those tags often, so most are recent mistags.

#4 That one's understandable. Technically the drawing part is greyscale. They probably didn't know about any pencil_art-type tags (since they weren't standardized at that point)...
#2/3 Okay...I guess if you go with a bluer grey (like slate gray) you might be able to...
#1 lol Robinbra

2, 3, and 4 should be Monochromatic, not greyscale or black_and_white. That first one shouldn't even be tagged that.

The actual tag is monochrome. Also, for the first, we do have restricted palette

What, baw and b&w are not enough?

b&w is too prone to have typos when you're typing it out fast (as are most of the symbols for whatever reason). However, I didn't know about baw; that will do nicely. :)

Thanks Circeus.
