Topic: The Echo fandom. Toxic or not?

Posted under General

So I had played Adastra, and I'm trying to play Echo (the visual novel), and I want to remove assumptions about the game and its fans as I play the game,
Some guy warned me that the is toxic, and I thought, is it really though? I don't know if this is true or not.

Just curious.

You can always find someone who'll say any given fandom or group is toxic, often as a result of a bad experience they had due to clashing personalities with a few members, or because that's what they heard from their friends (or because they had unrealistic expectations for a utopia where everyone's friendly all the time). But even if true, I doubt it applies to the group as a whole. Could you find toxic members? Probably, sure. That's true of anything; as groups/fandoms get larger, you get more diversity within the group, different people with different personalities, and eventually any given person will find personalities that just don't mesh together and butt heads.

I suspect it's also a matter of cliques. There's this social theory that once past a given size, the's an a**hole magnet effect that means some people will get in 'orbit' of a narcissist or the like. i.e. I bet even Super Mario Bros has toxic fans. I guess they need to stop eating those mushrooms! j/k

Just to add this. This guy who warned me about the Echo fandom being "toxic" wrote fanfics about the visual novel.
