Bowser's minions.

ಠ_ಠ They're Bowser's children. I don't know where they were referred to as minions that the wiki mentions, but that's not cool.

Bowser has eight children, by the way, the last, and youngest, being bowser_jr. (How he earned the right to be heir, I don't know, but he got his father's name due to his appearance). The major minions would be pom_pom_(mario_bros) and boom_boom.

They're confirmed to be Bowser's children in the English (and only English) version of the Super Mario World instruction booklet, but later on Nintendo changed the story. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, the "current story is that the seven Koopalings are not Bowser's children". This Mario Wiki article goes on for five paragraphs on this issue.
Tl;dr: I'm not sure even Nintendo knows anymore...

Implicate koopaling -> koopa? Then we'd have a species tag for them.

That might be helpful.

If we did that then we would have characters implicating a species tag, which we should probably avoid doing.
