Plus one. Most posts have no sound, and no_music is also invalidated. If someone wants to find animations without sound, they can search for -sound.
(Bumping because this is still pending and locating the thread took a lot of work: searching the forums for "sound" turned up tons of unrelated threads.)

I suppose invalidating the tag would make it more difficult but I would manage. I'd just like to keep it long enough to be able to go through the rest of the pending flash in flash -sound -no_sound since there are 15 pages missing either tag. I was going to start that as a project but got sidetracked with the whole -m -f -intersex -ambiguous_gender one.
Edit: On second thought, that doesn't really help as much as I'd thought.

But it's nice to be able to know for sure, whether or not a flash has sound. unlike many other No_* tags it's more useful. Because if you search -sound flash you're running the risk of the sound, of a moaning wolf blasting through your house. because someone forgot to add the sound tag.

No we should definitely get rid of as much redundant tags as possible
e621 needs to be a sleek, modernist website with glossy chrome finish and white featureless walls
Only then will it truly be enjoyable

I enjoy the no_sound tag because I see it a lot more often than the sound tag (for use in -sound searches), but either way we definitely need some tag warning before a post blasts us with sound.
Many posts have no preloaders or options beforehand to turn off the sound so this stands as a pretty big issue.

Mainly because finding ones that don't blast your ears off is important

-1 As well.
This is pretty much the only no_* tag that's actually useful.

This seems like a good time to advertise the somewhat underused ear_rape tag.

I know this tag has been argued in both directions.
But looking over the relevant threads, it doesn't change the fact that there's a lot of people who find both tags useful. Also, some of the arguments against no_sound were debatable at best. For instance, it was argued at one point that keeping both tags would mean they both would be tagged less often, but that deleting one of these tags would force people to use the other tag more often. Logically this doesn't follow. But it also doesn't seem to be the case when both tags are being used and tagged, and keeping both allows for more searchability options. And while there are times where we don't need a tag because it's already covered. There are also times where the existing other tags don't quite offer the same searchability or usefulness, and it's better to keep them both without much of a downside. And I know there's a few tags we were a little too quick to get rid of and were not actually replicatable with other tags. So it doesn't pay to do so out of habit.
Mostly though, I am not a fan of getting rid of tags which 1, people are using, 2, that do serve a valid purpose and 3, that don't cause any problems with other tags. Unnecessarily getting rid of tags can be just as harmful as keeping bad ones. There's a balance when it comes to invalidating tags, and I think in this case getting rid of no_sound is mainly based on tradition (we've done it so many times before, for the same reasons, so lets add this one to the same pile, etc). But unlike so many of those other tags, this one is not causing any problems, does have some uses which -sound does not fulfill, and is in active use. So I think it's worth keeping both of these tags.
Therefore, the alias to invalidate is denied.
