Topic: The shitstorm that is Pixiv Right now

I'm not sure if this was talked about before, but i'll start with the root of the problem. Yet another case of higher ups and sexual harassment it seems, and a dash of transphobia too

So, aside from content creators jumping off the platform and some without alternatives becoming "homeless" so to speak, that's just a bunch of lost content, potentially forever.

But another thing that's happened, most likely due to the recent scandal, is the banning and suspension of artists and creators who draw r-18 content containing genitals. Alot were hit, and the few survivors had to delete most if not all of their r-18 content.

Lastly, that also means that a bunch of source links from pixiv are most likely dead. And images with ONLY source linked from pixiv is basically sourceless now.

Tl:dr Alot of content is gone, either temporarily or forever, and alot of creators are potentially "homeless".

This seems like a lot of hearsay, I wouldn't call yahoo or twitter news sources. Ya, one of those links even has the person admitting they were neglecting the TOS of the website with non-censored genitalia.

But people jumping ships due to the whole scandal is still a thing happening. On the mass banning, it has been resolved yes, but the new TOS thing, with the whole banning for posting art with genetalia, as i've only seen from 1 case study (yes i know it's a very small pool, sorry for sounding abit ignorant) was resolved from the deletion of those posts. i'm sorry if it does sound like abit of doom posting, the intention was mostly to just point out the horrible situation that's happening there and spread a possible loss of sources for some pieces.

... Yahoo still exists?

Yup... Japan still loves using yahoo, for some reason. Probably the only thing keeping them alive.

Pixiv has always banned people for drawings with uncensored (or not censored enough) genitals. Their enforcement of it was always spotty, but I see a few western artists here and there get hit once in a while and either lose their account entirely, or have to delete everything that was uncensored. I just wish some lawmaker would risk the career suicide and push to end the dumb censorship tradition.

The content creators bailing sucks, but sometimes the only way to pushback against a platform is if enough people leave the service for it to be noticeable.

I'd like to see them move to FA, if they know how to get around the dumb 1280p size restriction. One Japanese artist I follow has started to use FA again complaining about Pixiv's required censorship, and they seem to do a good job putting up their full-size art. It'll be a shame if more people start using Twitter exclusively because of this.

The 1280 restriction is one of the worst parts about FA, there are countless times that I've had to go searching for any other platform an artist may have uploaded to, on the off chance they have a higher resolution uploaded. What's the point? A small reduction in file sizes on the server? If that's the case, why even have the exploit?

It'll be a shame if more people start using Twitter exclusively because of this.

Please, artists, I beg of you, use Itaku or Newgrounds.

I legit didn't even know there were censorship rules on pixiv.net. People don't seem to follow them very well because I have several favorites still on that site that are completely uncensored...

Itaku also bans content arbitrarily and newgrounds does without warning, neither are good options

Either one is better than Twitter if we're only talking about image quality, not to mention the sites' UI, search engines, and ability to browse for art. Outside of cub/loli/shota content, or bestiality, I don't think an artist would be banned from Itaku or Newgrounds for the subject matter of their artwork, but I could be wrong.

it's a japanese website, so that kinda rule could kind of be assumed based on to Japan's laws on that kind of stuff.

if someone really wants to avoid their stuff ever being lost because of posts being deleted or accounts being banned, they could post their stuff directly to ExH. the website's meant for series of images/comics/whatever, so it's not exactly designed to be a gallery for individual images, but the rules are pretty lax as to what they allow on the site, pretty much only ever getting rid of stuff at the request of the original artist.

tell people about piczel as well if it's just gallery purposes. It's a streaming site but it's got a pretty baller file handling set up.

An issue with Newgrounds, beyond content restrictions, is when uploading multiple images on one post. You can only get the full size version of the first image, all the other images are practically thumbnail size.

I think it would be fantastic if they coded that in a way that when you submit multiple files, instead of doing what it does now it just creates a new submission

Tom Fulp said that they're working on it so that we can upload multiple full-size images per post. but I doubt it'll apply retroactively to posts made before the update.

Mediabiasfactcheck.com (highly recommend for anyone) lists Yahoo News with a "High" Factual Reporting rating. It's generally a trustworthy news source.

... Yahoo is just tabloid journalism.

An article titled "Shop Lady Gaga's Blue Chain Thong Bikini For $21 On Amazon" seems very trustworthy...

So I finally decided to look for myself. Yeah I see some images are gone or have been tweaked
Nothing can really be done about broken source links besides removing them. If the pictures just don't exist anywhere else anymore, e6 can call itself an archive for lost art now (congrats).

I'll still upload pics from pixiv, wholesome or not, unless the censorship is heavy enough to interfere with the pic.
And I will still encourage finding and sharing uncensored (non-paywall) versions to replace them, even at the expense of my upload limit taking hits.

To note, don't do that. Even if the link is now dead, it can be helpful to have if it was once valid.

Yep, Wayback Machine links or other 3rd-party sources can still be found from it.

It can? Well, that sounds useful. So maybe not completely dead then huh?

Lots of lowres posts with dead tumblr links had alternate sources from tumblr reblogs that had been found by googling the dead link, which allowed us to get the full size versions. It's pretty helpful to always keep around the original source.
