I was recently made aware of the thong_straps tag, which is how we refer to pictures where the straps of a character's underwear ride up above the top of their bottomwear. And I've also noticed the thong tag itself being applied to a wide variety of pictures where the character is seen only from the front. But the definition of a thong is underwear (or a bikini bottom) that exposes the buttcheeks, isn't it? If we're going by TWYS, panties can only be identified as a thong if you can actually see the buttcheeks. It looks like people are mostly making assumptions based on the straps being thin or riding high on the waist. So I'm wondering if they need to be sifted through and retagged, or if it's our definition that should change.
And that brings me to the thong_straps tag itself. Since the character is wearing bottomwear over top, there are very few situations where enough of the butt would be visible to determine if the straps belong to a thong or not (see whale_tail which covers most of them). So unless we're amending our definition, maybe it should be renamed to underwear_straps or something, or at least append its wiki page with a warning that it's a nonindicative name and to not add the thong tag unless it meets the criteria for it.
