Topic: Can I post this?

Posted under General

So, i was looking around doneru's pixiv booth and saw a few free doujins, stuff like this:

https://booth.pm/ja/items/2282226

The only need is technically a pixiv account and anyone could download it for free, but the site is technically a store, am i allowed to upload this?

As long as the item itself is 100% free (and not pay-what-you-want), then it should be fine.

Is there a distinction between pay what you want and not? The thing itself is Free, but i wkuld actually like to know the difference.

Not sure how e6 deals with $0+ "name-your-price" kind of commercial content, but there is certainly a grey zone in this area.

Generally, any content that needs to be paid-to-access (or is otherwise gotten through piracy/leaks) is prohibited and should not be posted.
However, certain rules also prohibit specific free-to-access content from being posted under the reason that the creators make passive income from them; e.g., ads on a free webcomic, monetisation from YouTube videos, etc.

Thus, the bottomline is whenever you are in doubt, either ask the admins about it or ask the creator directly if they are okay with you reposting their content on the site. In this case, however, it may be tough since they are Japanese.

The avoid posting page has this rule:

"Free" Pay-What-You-Want content (meaning you can buy it for $0.00) is DNP for 2 months after having been made available for "free"

So, when did this doujin started to become free?

2 months huh? So i can post it then? Since this has been out since september last year?

That’s something i’d like to do too, confirm with an admin. Since, asking doneru himself would be difficult to impossible

The "Free Pay-What-You-Want" rule is for content that's free, but with an option to donate money. As far as I can tell, this is just free, with no donation option. So, YES, you can post it, and hypothetically speaking, even if Doneru had posted this today, you still could post it.

Allright, screw it, i'll upload it. Worse case scenario i get a slap on the wrist with a neutral and learn ig.

Ooh! Looks like Doneru also made a certain Monster Hunter comic free as well, which was previously posted here but deleted as pay content.
Previously deleted: pool #11919
Official free release: https://booth.pm/ja/items/1906457

However, for some reason, the free version has 29 pages, while the deleted pool has 46 posts. I'm not sure what's causing this discrepancy, but it may be related to why the first page of the free version is labeled as page 19. In theory, we should restore the relevant 29 posts of that pool, but it might take some detective work to determine which 29 those are exactly, or an admin checking each post. I guess I'll DM NotMeNotYou about this.

EDIT: I DM'd NMNY to officially-unofficially volunteer them to go to the website, navigate through some Japanese, download the free pictures that are annoying stored together as a .PDF file (which requires logging into a Pixiv account), check which deleted posts of the pool are a part of that PDF, and then restore the relevant posts. Sorry, NMNY! No immediate response yet, unsurprisingly. I let them know that I think the free part starts at post 16 of the pool (and also the pool's first post = the cover).

Hmmmm, interesting. I didn't know we had another clause that made ($0) commercial content free-to-post after a two month period.

To be honest, this is the only page where I remember seeing this rule. Looking into it more, it was added in the era when paid content was allowed on the site, so I'm not sure how much it still holds up.

Abunch of the deleted stuff was probably other artist's since the original doujin was an anthology. I'm also hopeful to see it get resurected as to say.

Have you checked to see that the MD5s match the deleted posts? If not, it would probably be both simpler and safer to reupload from the free source. If it does turn out there are any changes (even in minor things like image quality) this would still be breaking the pay content rule.

A problem with that is Doneru just uploaded all the pages together as a PDF rather than individual image files for that particular comic. I can't upload it as it is on https://booth.pm/ja/items/1906457, since a PDF is not a valid file format here.

EDIT: I assume it's not difficult to convert PDF pages to images. I'll look into it later today.

That's so weird, why did the undertale doujin get a zip option but not the Monhun one?

PDF is just a document format, like Word. Get yourself a free PDF editor and extract the raw image files.
