Topic: how detailed do I have to be when tagging posts?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I know there's the basics: characters, rating, species, ect. But when it gets into the 'additional tags' section, I have to wonder how deep I have to go down that hole.

Should I tag every single thing that appears in a picture no matter how insignificant it seems or am I good just covering the basic stuff?

Ideally, yes. Most people can't be bothered though, and 10 general tags will suffice.

A Staff can probably answer this better than i can, but in general, you should tag the contentious things, stuff that people would likely have in their blacklists, and thats really the only you MUST tag, but you REALLY SHOULD tag any major things in the image, like whether the background is detailed or not (detailed background, simple background) what pose they are in, other notable objects (like what they are wearing), any actions they are performing (standing, sitting, drinking 20 gallons of cum from 20 different furries). If you can, you should also tag meta information about the actual image, like whether its digital or traditional, when it was created if you know, its sources etc...

This is something I have been wondering too. Is it going too far if I tag chimney because of a tiny house somewhere in the background?

Spooky
Just about to say 10 would be fine too, Dood.

10 tags is fine from a you-won't-get-reported perspective, but it helps out so much if you can be as thorough as possible while tagging. It helps with searching and it saves other people from having to tag what's missing.

just make sure you tag all the typically disliked stuff or you will get a a couple knuckleheads complaining in the comments instead of actually tagging it themselves

I've always been under the impression that a tag should be relevant enough. I think that particular instance wouldn't be enough to earn a tag.

Your post's visibility and score are highly dependent on how well you tag it for people to find it in their searches.
Unless of course, if you are popular and/or produce high quality artworks, appeal and popularity would drive up your score.
