Topic: [Answered] Why is instant_loss_2koma a copyright tag and not a general tag?

Posted under General

As far as I can tell instant_loss_2koma is a reference to a style of comic, specifically Yonkoma (or 4-Koma), which is a short comic with 4 panels. Therefore a 2koma is a comic with 2 panels, which is exactly what instant_loss_2koma is.
This does not represent any specific comic company, just a style of comic, therefore it shouldn't it be classified as a General tag?

Looking at the history of the tag, it appears it was flipped from General to Copyright twice before the 100 post edit limit was hit, but I have no idea why.

I just found out about this tag - is this really a meme?? The only information I can find about it is the definition on wiktionary, which doesn't say anything about it being a meme. There's nothing about it on know your meme either. I don't speak japanese, is this only a meme in japan...?

If it really is a meme it should imply meme, but it doesn't seem to be a meme, just a format. So in that case it should be a general tag, shouldn't it?

I literally linked that in my post lol. That page doesn't say anywhere that it's a meme. It says "fandom slang" but does that really make something a meme? Idk

ah derp, i missed that

I think "meme" is the closest word that this site has for "fandom slang"

honestly, it's more of a meme than a lot of the stuff that's implied to meme. when used properly I think it _might_ qualify as a format-type meme, which I think is one of the more valid meme types for tagging purposes. even then, it's a bit more freeform than even most of those, with the only close adjacent being loss, but even that when used as a format has a bit more of a rigid definition.

the problem is that people are just kinda using it as a general tag for any "instant loss" adjacent scenario, regardless of the format of the piece overall... and looking through the tag, also a whole bunch of stuff that's not even close to instant loss.

just from the first page of results
post #4482373 actual instant_loss_2koma
post #4482101 arguably instant loss, but not 2koma
post #4480788 2koma, but not instant loss
post #4461327 not 2koma, not instant loss
post #4441805 this is an animation, so... yeah

this tag's a mess in it's own right.

I think we should have a specific category for memes and holidays separate from copyrights
