Topic: Turned 21. Had my first drink.

Posted under Off Topic

It was something called a Peach Stoli (spelling?) With 7-Up. I'm not much of a beer kind of person, but this was right up my alley. This was my first ever experience consuming a whole standard drink. I stopped at one because I have self control and I didn't want my first time to be heavy. Being on a light buzz is interesting. Everything requires about 10% more concentration, buy it feels so natural and soothing. I'll definitely be doing this again after finals are over.

What was your first experience with alcohol like?

Updated by Tokaido

Egg nog with rum.
Blackberry brandy.

I'm not sure which was first, but the brandy was worse to drink a lot of.

I don't drink often though...maybe once a year or so I'll pick up a good Irish whiskey. I don't care for the buzz but I love the taste so I'll just pour a small glass and sip it straight.

How do you know you're not a beer kind of person if you just had your first "whole standard drink"?

Had beer by accident as a kid. Hated the taste. Same with vodka. Eventually grew to prefer vodka, particularly martinis. Had a bunch of sake when I turned 21, still wasn't fond of the taste of alcohol. Learned more about sake afterward and enjoyed more sake when my friend turned 21 correctly. I've drunk heavily when a different friend returned to town and during this past thanksgiving. I've yet to get drunk, so I hope it's nothing like being high.

I've still tasted several different beers on several occasions. Tastes like the piss of someone who ate a lot of bread.

I'll never understand why you almost have to drink when you turn 21

Hmm you're a month and 12 days older than me >:I

White Russian, made in the classic style, none of the added sweeteners a lot of bars like to add.
2 shots Vodka, 1 shot Kaluha(or other coffee liqueur), top it off with milk.

Mild enough for me, since I'm sensitive to the taste of alcohol, but not all fruity and sweet.

FYI, sugar in alcohol increases hangovers.
If you want to avoid the headaches, find something you enjoy that's less sweet.

To add to this: Remember to drink like...actual water. Dehydration is huge with hangovers and you can often prevent most of them by just remembering to stay hydrated.

Screwdrivers. About 11 of them, at least. Painted the bathroom floor with an abstract blend of yellow and pulp.
Didn't drink for a while after that.

Honestly the only thing I drink anymore are sodas (Dr Pepper/Root Beer) mixed with Coconut Liquor or Malibu Rum. Helps me concentrate.

I had my first drink when I was seven. Didn't like it, haven't drank since.

If you are less partial to beer you should try Mike's lemonade. That's really good.

Smirnoff Ice is good for people that dislike beer too.
You can usually find one or the other at bars, so they're nice if you're with a group that's drinking.

My first drink was Tennants lager. It was terrible. lol
Now I just stick to the Jägermeister.

Meh, artificial tasting imo.

If you want something beer-like, but not beer I'd suggest hard ciders, or ginger beer.
Both are good drinks that don't have that bitter hops taste that you get from beer.
For cider, Woodchuck is one of the best widely available brands I've had, for ginger beer get Crabbie's they've been making it for over 200 years, they've got it right.

Hazelnut liqueur is good. Or, if you're like and prefer to "ruin" it, mix with Pepsi. I have a bottle of Frangelico about six feet away from me.
Rye whisky too, which I also like ruining with Pepsi.
Of the few beers I've had, the only one I liked was Gulden Draak ale (dark red, strong).
I can tolerate just about any wine...

LOL. I intentionally got wasted at my friend's place when I was 16. I tried and mixed everything they had, which was whisky sour, scotch whisky, vodka, gin, tequila, and probably some others. Gin is the devil, ravager of flavor. We walked around in -30C cold sometime after midnight when I took great pleasure in slipping and "falling" over in the snow--but half of that was also intentional. I passed out on a random couch and was saddened when I woke up and discovered that my awful drink had vanished. I suffered from nausea for the entire day after the party, but I did not throw up.

I've not been that drunk since, because I find it hard not to pace myself.

I don't drink often, as I tend to pace myself like a sled dog at the Iditarod: run hard until I fall over.

First experience was with a 26oz bottle of cheap tequila. To this day, the smell of any tequila makes me gag, unless maybe it is a real quality silver (protip: if there is a worm in it, look to a higher price point; it is a crap liquor, and the worm doubles as an early warning device for bad tequila, like the proverbial canary in the coal mine.)

Coolers like Mikes and Smirnoff Ice are way oversweetened (sickeningly so), whereas some ciders are a good alternative to these, and also to beers.

A right proper vodka Caesar is nice, and not the bloody mary bastardized by our neighbours to the south.

To ward off dehydration, there is nothing wrong with vodka and water, or gin and tonic; while Red Bull and vokdas are fun at first, they will make your heart explode eventually.

Having said all of that, my go to if I am anywhere civilized is a red wine. None of this 'decanted 500ml carafe' crap, leave me the whole bottle please.

Fuck being civilized; this is the Iditarod.

My first drink was when I stole a sip of my dad's Budweiser at a party, bleh. First full drink was on my 21st, it was an appletini of some form or another, not bad.

I pretty much just don't like alcoholic beverages, I drink very rarely. However, a friend just introduced me to Angry Orchard sour apple cider and I actually liked it. May experiment further
