Topic: Tag alias: legendary_pokémon -> pokémon

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

For some reason trying to create this alias suggestion fails so I'll do it manually.

Aliasing:
legendary_pokémon -> pokémon

Reason:

If this tag is valid then why not go ahead and make several tags for smogon tiers?
Not to mention that whole name is just stupid. Mewtwo? Legendary? Don't think so.

If it's aliased then implication arceus -> legendary_pokémon needs to be removed.

I'd be perfectly okay with this. It's a neat way to sort them (if you're into that) but I wouldn't have even bothered if arceus wasn't implicated to it.

I was just going with bulbapedia though because (believe it or not) I don't actually not really that into pokemon, so YMMV with who is technically considered legendary; I won't argue with you about it either.

Nothing wrong with this tag.
We have an eeveeloutions tag that has been declared valid more than once by the admins, and that's not even a real thing in the pokemon games.
At least legendary pokemon are a real classification in the games.

Yeah, I know that this tag is your trolling but even though their are some awful decisions about tags made in past (Hey, at least eeveelution have a definition - there is tag that has no clear definition, but some admins are claiming that it is valid.) this is not a valid reason to make tag system even more bad.

Pokemon tagged with this tag have nothing in common. There are rock giants like all regis, small fairies like celebi, giant birds like lugia, and so on, and so on.
This tag makes as much sense as bats_dogs_dolphins_and_some_other_shit tag. Or every smogon tier. Are you for tagging tiers from smogon?

I'd have to say +1 on this basis. At least with the eeveelutions tags they are all elemental canines.

Bottom line:
The tag adds ability to search things without hurting anything.
There's no reason this tag shouldn't exist other than you not liking to see it.

You forgot to say that because of our totalitarian and closed-minded attitude we can't have nice things anymore.
Also this tag is hurting, besides other things, speciestags:<number> searches. Same, of course, goes for stupid tags of other fandoms.

How exactly is it hurting the speciestags number search? You say "Legendary Pokemon have nothing in common," but that's outright false. They're all legendary pokemon. Pokemon that, in the games, are unable to be bred. People often enjoy looking for them to see that rule broken, to see images of them in sexual positions.

People searching for pic with 3 species of pokemon fucking will also find two species of pokemon where one of them is legendary when searching for speciestags:3
Though now that I thought about this long chains of species implications are making this search even more unusable.

First of all same reasoning can be applied to almost any possible tags including tiers on smogon. I'm pretty sure that there are some people who don't like watching porn of anything less then uber.

Secondly are you suggesting that we should have incompatible_egg_groups tag? I'll say - leave weird fandom tags to fandom sites.
Or, how about making more general tag like cannot_have_offspring which will not be used just by one particular fandom?

By that line of reasoning, mammal breaks a lot more.

That being said, we could just...I don't know...not make it a species tag?

Yeah I admitted this in my next post. I was thinking more about certain chartag breaking tag and forgot that speciestag is already broken and there's no really good way to fix it - so there's no reason to changing its type to general. Still I really don't like this tag for many other reasons - primarily because it has absolutely no use outside of the particular fandom and we're removing tags like tailsko. Other reason is that pokemon tagged with this has no more connection then if we randomly choose 30 pokemons and decide to make tag for them.

My opinion hasn't changed: I still think that tags such as fire_pokémon would be more useful than tagging legendaries. Which is to say, it wouldn't be very useful, but at least fire pokemon have something in common..

I'd make a giant wiki page if I were motivated enough (I'm not, but I considered it), but some pokemon are different types in different generations...so I can't even imagine the headache in actually implementing it...

I'm in agreement with Haltie on this one. I don't see how the tag is hurting anything and I can see how/why people would want to search for it. It's more specific than any tag I would normally want to search, but not so ridiculously specific as to add useless clutter. Isn't it a term used in game too? So it should be easily definable.

I think that this is a fine place to draw a line on the subject actually, like "we can have a legendary Polemon tag, but we don't need to have Pokemon tagged by which routs toy find them on, or what regions they're from."

EDIT: that being said, this is another topic that I'm not particularly passionate about, so don't expect to hear me complain much about which way the decision goes :P
