Topic: What caused invalid_tag on this image? None of the tags on it are listed on the invalid tag wiki page

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I added some tags to this image:

The tags I added were:

+5_toes +artist_name +biped +eyelashes +feet +hand_on_knee +hand_on_leg +legs_together +navel +nipples +pseudo_hair +scale_hair +scaled_tail +scales +toes

The tags already on the image were:

2020 anthro big_breasts breasts eyewear female glasses hi_res looking_at_viewer mammal monochrome nude pangolin shycryptid simple_background sitting solo thick_thighs wide_hips rating:q

When I submitted this change, it added invalid_tag as well.

So, I went to the Invalid: invalid tag wiki page and Ctrl+F'd all of the tags listed above, but none of them appeared on the page - either in the main list, or in the "The following tags are aliased to this tag:" list at the end.

(Incidentally, that wiki page also contains "See also: The current list", but that link just goes to a "not found" error page.)

This has recently happened on a few other images on which I've edited tags, too. For example, I uploaded these images a couple of weeks ago, and invalid_tag was added to the tags I put on them on the initial upload - I couldn't figure out what was causing it then, either:

1. What caused the addition of invalid_tag in this case of today's tag edits to that ShyCryptid pangolin image?
2. Is there a better way to figure out which tag caused invalid_tag than to visit that wiki page and Ctrl+F on each one in turn?
3. On the invalid_tag wiki page, should that "See also: The current list" link go to a working page?
4. The list on the invalid_tag wiki page was last manually edited in August 2020 - is it overdue an update?
5. Am I right in saying that the list "The following tags are aliased to this tag:" at the end of the wiki page is automatically generated, and contain all the tag aliases that lead to invalid_tag - but it doesn't list any tag implications that lead to invalid_tag?

Unfortunately, whatever tag you added won't show up on the history; it automatically gets turned into the invalid_tag.

Oh, I didn't know invalid_tag works as a replacement - I thought it got added alongside whatever you originally wrote!

If it's aliased to invalid_tag there's no telling what it was. Posts with the invalid category rather than being aliased will appear in the same place as invalid_tag and in those cases you'll be able to know what was wrong.

I've seen invalid_tag appear on some of my posts when I'm 90% sure I didn't type anything invalid. At least it will be less of a problem when more tags are moved to the invalid category rather than being aliased to invalid.

I've updated the link now, looks like it hadn't been updated since the website was redone.

I think the manual list should just be scrapped from the article entirely, there's no point maintaining a list manually when it's already generated automatically.

Nothing is currently implicated to invalid_tag, otherwise it would show a separate list. See the wiki for another tag like clothing.

In the past, things would purely be aliased to invalid tag. Unfortunately, this relied on the user paying attention to what tags they added, and to watch that it didn't end up on the list. It's fairly rare for things to get aliased to it nowadays, usually they can at least be aliased to something less derogatory but still invalid so others know which kind of tag was added, so they can correct it or remove it, depending on if it was a mistag of something valid or not.
