Topic: Suggestion: Forced tutorial/quiz for new users to upload

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I'm getting a bit tired of new uploads that are barely (or not at all) tagged.

I'm tempted to suggest that new users (And old users without much upload history) be forced to complete a little quiz with sarcastic little questions like "What are the buttons on the upload page for? Should you ever click on any of them?"

At least a bit of this can probably be chalked up to non-English speaking users, and I should chill out, but still...

Take note of who is doing it and report them if you see the same name popping up doing the same thing. Otherwise, just add the tags and maybe shoot them a polite message about minimum tag counts.

the last time i did that they blocked me ;_;

I've wondered about the etiquette of doing that. As I'm not a janitor here, a reasonable argument could probably be made that I have no business messaging other users about their (lack of) tagging.

Nope. As per https://e621.net/forum_topics/22167?page=1#forum_post_260552

not tagging something is not against the rules, only removing valid tags or adding the wrong tags is against the rules

Updated

A user can be uploading with 4 valid tags, without uploading the "male" tag despite the tag plainly being appropriate for their full-frontal beefcake image, and prominently placed as a button on the upload page for exactly that reason.

edit: I suppose what I'm suggesting is the rules should be modified, to require that appropriate tags on the upload page must be applied by the original uploader (tl;dr - click the buttons you lazy dumbass)

Updated

Wait not tagging something isn't against the rules? The first time I saw the description of the "Contentious Content" section on the upload page, I really thought we could get in trouble by not tagging something:

Contentious Content

Fetishes or subjects that other users may find extreme or objectionable. These allow users to find or blacklist content with ease. Make sure that you are tagging these upon initial upload.

I believe the only one you can actually get in trouble for not tagging is young. This was the case even before the site started censoring such images.

You can get in trouble for not tagging a lot of things, as long as it's consistent and deliberate. Same thing with ratings. Consistently mistagging something can be considered vandalism.
Young gets a lot of attention, but other fetishes (such as gore, snuff, scat, watersports, vore, diapers, and so on) should definitely be tagged on upload.

But you probably won't get in trouble if it happens once or twice.

How to report bad behavior

Reporting bad tagging
Things not to report

  • not tagging something
    • not tagging something is not against the rules, only removing valid tags or adding the wrong tags is against the rules

So is this forum topic outdated? And now we can get in trouble for not tagging something? I'm confused.

Even on the Tagging Abuse section on e6 rules, it doesn't say anything about not tagging something being punishable?

The only place this is lightly said is on the upload form as I've said already. But on the upload form it feels more like a suggestion than something that you can get punished if you don't follow. Could you clarify?

Im new to all this, but from what ive seen theres plenty of peeps willing to help others tag images. So how about a "help_taging" tag. Also when someone uploads make it obvious that if they need help taging to use the "help_taging" tag. Or is there somekind of system like it that could be retooled/optimized for the same purpose?

There's two types of tags, to my reckoning.

The simple, basic stuff. You know, the *buttons* on the upload page.
Someone who is uploading, especially if they're uploading many images, and isn't clicking any of those buttons, is creating huge amounts of work for everyone else, and is defeating both searches (People looking for their content won't find it because it's not tagged) and blacklists (People who don't want to see that content have to look at it, because it's not tagged). Fuck that person.

Then there's the exotic stuff. Some sex positions, tags describing the environment and surroundings of the image, and such. Nobody knows all the tags. That's fine if others help tag.

Respectfully, if you don't know the basics of how to tag, you shouldn't be uploading.
Do a bit of searching, and *look at the tags of the images you find*.

edit: Also, get better over time. Upload something, then look at the tag history a couple of days later. Figure out why other people added the tags they did, and try to do that beforehand the next time you upload.

This sounds like a job you can do. Start writing the code for this new test or start tagging new images. Its trite to ask admins who work for free to babysit everyone on here to take on more work for literally zero incentive. Donate some money to the mods and they might expedite your request. Remember, you wouldnt enjoy working for free here so dont expect the mods to do backflips for you because of a request. Grease their palms (money) or show initiative and create the solution yourself. If this is the biggest worry in your life than you got it really easy.

Whenever I see a post with few tags, I try to add some. The lack of tags makes a post very hard to find.

Whe could implement a search for tag amounts, post with fewer then 10 tags, fewer then 25 so on. Also would be cool to search for post like more then 50 tags or more then 150 tags.

Could also have a minimum tag amount for uploading. Seems to me that most well taged post have at lest 15 tags

That's already a thing.
tagcount:<10 order:tagcount_asc all need to be fixed.

The minimum tag count when uploading is currently 4.
I have been arguing to bring it up to at least 10, but that has not happened.
