I don't know how with others but I can't do "â" on my keybord.
It's quite annoying.

Windows: Alt + 226 on the number pad. Unfortunately Windows doesn't make this very intuitive (more codes)
Mac: option + i, then press "a"
Mac: hold down "a" and a little menu will pop up and you just pick one (10.7 Lion or newer IIRC)
Smartphone: Many will give you accented letters if you hold your finger over the key for a few seconds.

+1 on the alias though.
