Topic: Requesting input on gender tagging in an edge case

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I'm looking for input on how post #2796715 should be tagged for gender.

Based on the regular gender tagging tree, this post would be tagged male/female, as there is a male character and a character who has both breasts and female genitalia.

However, the second character also has a beard, which is a sex characteristic that is not seen in females except in cases of endocrine dysfunction or hormone replacement. This is essentially analogous to how breasts are not seen in males except in the aforementioned special cases. Although it's normal for females to have a small amount of facial hair, a full beard would never be seen under normal circumstances.

For the purposes of blacklisting, if someone had blacklisted the intersex tag, they would most likely be confused as to why they would still be seeing posts where a character has sex characteristics of more than one sex if these cases are tagged as female instead of intersex.

For the purposes of TWYS, I'm seeing a character who has the sexual characteristics of more than one sex in the above post.

As far as I've read on the wiki, both genitals and physical gender traits are considered when tagging gender, however I'm not sure what the general consensus on this is.

Definitely and edge case, but I'd vote for male/female. Because of the female genitalia it doesn't seem like intersex fits and she's too feminine excluding the beard for andromorph. Hyenas irl and in this art just don't fit into our categories very cleanly, but to me based on twys that's a masculine/bearded female.

Thanks for the explanation, that seems like the best option in this case.

bearded lady is a thing.

Right, but my point is that a full beard is not something that would ever be seen on a hormonally typical female, i.e., it is definitionally a gender atypical anatomical feature. As far as I can tell there isn't any tagging guidance specifically addressing this type of case.
If there were a breasted_gentleman tag, for example, that wouldn't automatically mean that a character with breasts and male genitals should be tagged male.

It seems that breasts/genitals always take precedence over other secondary sex characteristics for the purposes of tagging gender however, which is what my question was aimed at figuring out.
