Topic: Question regarding art posting.

Posted under General

This happened quite awhile ago, but I had never really gotten around to asking this type of question until now.

I wanted to post art that I received of my own sona myself, but I found that the art was already uploaded to the site by some random bot-looking account with numbers in their name, which is unfortunate because I would rather art of my sona being uploaded by me personally, but I don't want to go the route of making myself "DNP" or something like that (I am not the artists however, so i dont think this applies to me anyway).
This happened months ago, and I probably should have asked sooner, but I finally got around to uploading the art to my FA, hence why I am here now asking.

I technically would have the "original" version of the picture, but I am not sure if it would make that much of a difference if someone pulled it off of FA or Twitter.

If the name is something like user_12345, that just means the user deleted their account and their name was replaced with a placeholder.

If you have a better version (if the original you have is larger and/or has less compression artifacts) than what's already here, that would be acceptable to post. Just make sure to link the old post (so any comments, tags, links, etc, on the old post can still be seen), and flag the old version as inferior. However, if you don't have a better version, or if the image's artist is conditional_dnp in a way that would not allow you to post it (e.g. if only the artist can post their work, or if only images from their public galleries are allowed), you wouldn't be able to post it.

It's not a deleted user i think.

Looking again i was actually wrong, it's some random user with a bunch of letters.

It looks like some sort of bot

qpzm (Q, P, Z, M) are the four corner letters on a qwerty keyboard, repeated four times, so it's not random. They also have comments. It doesn't look like a bot.

Just a heads up, you can't go through the DNP route as you are not an artist, but you can request for a takedown to remove the artwork.
However, you cannot reupload a previously deleted post because it violates the Uploading Guidelines and is just bad practice.

The only way you can replace the old post is for you to have a superior version of the post (i.e., one of higher quality or larger sized (hi-res, full-res)).

Why does that matter to you?

Anyone with an account can edit tags or add sources. Being the one to upload something literally makes no difference.

One thing I have to say though is that you can check the score and comments section of your commissions/artworks more easily if you have uploaded it yourself.

The only advantage it nets you is the meta search user:scakk; while you can use this metatag for "comment searching"/comments/search you can also just use your character nametag.

Feature request: the ability to get comments on posts in a pool/set, instead of just a user. https://e621.net/comments?group_by=comment&search%5Bposter_id%5D=408179 works to get comments on a particular user's posts, but https://e621.net/comments?group_by=comment&search%5Bpool_id%5D=24019 (for pool #24019) for example, doesn't work to get comments on a particular pool's posts. Something like that would be nice, as you'd be able to collect posts of interest in a set and easily check them for comments.

Though maybe the admins wouldn't want sets to be created for that purpose, if there's no other purpose to the set. Still could be useful in general though, for seeing what people are saying on comics you like.

Alternatively, being able to 'follow' or 'watch' a post, with the ability to see comments on posts you follow/watch (which when a post is deleted as inferior to another, the follows/watches are copied with it so users will automatically continue to see comments on the new version).

Huh, didn't notice you can't search the metatags pool or set. That would certainly be a very useful feature.
Sets are supposed to be available for "whatever" reasons, so I don't see why the admins wouldn't want that.

Even though you can't "reclaim" the upload credit, you can still edit the "sources" section to add your FA profile and the image's specific page. Maybe even put in a comment and/or use the "edit reason" field to indicate that it's your 'sona.
