at some point permanent_chastity got redirected to just chastity, which is making some confusion. permanent , key_disposal, key_disposed_of, and probably some more i'm missing are used irregularly and haphazardly, whereas just having one tag for being-stuck-in-chastity-for-presumably-forever-based-on-context would be super helpful, and the various methods of the key not being there could be added on.

Presumably, if you want images involving chastity devices with no visible key in the image, you would search for chastity_device -key.
It seems a little odd that permanent_chastity was aliased to chastity_device instead of using an implication. Was that because there were so few images? Was permanent_chastity being used instead of chastity_device in a bunch of cases simply because a key wasn't visible? Unfortunately, the former admin who approved the alias hasn't been active for a few months, and the only forum thread about a tag alias is forum #23370, which doesn't mention permanent_chastity directly.
As for permanent, I do somewhat suspect that it might have been a result of folks not using underscores. I mean, permanent does have a tag wiki entry and several hundred images... but it feels really sketchy to me. Some of the posts that use it are just variations of broken_key images, many simply include the word "permanent" in them (narrative text or the like). I wonder how descriptive it really is, or whether it should be a lore tag.
I don't think that permanent_chastity is equivalent to chastity_device, but with no key in sight. IMHO, for a chastity to be permanent, at least one of three things must be true:
1. The permanence of chastity is mentioned through dialogue
2. A key is either visibly destroyed, or in the process of being destroyed
3. The device itself is visibly unremovable - the keyhole is sealed, for example
The last one is kinda iffy, and open to interpretation, though.
The alias should definitely be removed, and replaced with an implication permanent_chastity -> chastity_device.

I don't like that tag at all, as it's really ambiguous. In my opinion, it should be split into more specific tags - like permanent_chastity, permanent_bondage, permanent_transformation, etc.

i think thats a great way to do it. obv ANY chastity could be permanent but the appeal of a permanent_chastity tag is getting all the images where someone says "haha i broke the key" or you see the lock being glued or whatever. just doing chastity_cage -key isnt all encompassing.

disposed_key
disposed_of_key
sealed_chastity_device
are all being used for the same general event of "someones chastity device is being permanently affixed to them in some manor of way." i dont see an issue keeping a key-based tag or the sealed tag as those are specific, but bringing back permanent_chastity would be a great catchall for all of those.
I attempted to make a BUR, since that's the only way to un-alias tags at the moment. However, it fails to create, citing that you cannot create an implication to an aliased tag.
Might need an intervention from a staff member.
Should be something like this, I think
unalias permanent_chastity -> chastity_device implicate permanent_chastity -> chastity_device implicate sealed_chastity_device -> permanent_chastity implicate key_disposal -> permanent_chastity
The rest of the key disposal tags (plus broken_key) can be cleaned up manually.
