Topic: Widespread lack of "anthrofied" tag usage

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

So it dawned on me recently, especially for stuff like pokemon content, how little the anthrofied tag gets used. Pretty much all the posts that I think of regarding this absolutely have the anthro tag (and related tags) but almost never anthrofied. I wonder if this is due to lack of awareness of the tag or if people just don't care. Either way, I've started working on this problem a little bit one character (or in this case pokemon) at a time and hopefully people start picking up on it. Kinda sucks only priviledged+ users can do batch tagging but whatever, point is that I'm fairly certain this is worth a tagging project. Problem is that it's not possible to make a single search that includes all the relevant cases, since this only applies to certain characters/species. Give thoughts.

EDIT: So I just learned about the API and I'm gonna look into using that for working on this, I'm certain it will be much more efficient long-term.
Suppose what I'll ask for atm is some examples of characters/species that this problem applies to. I already mentioned the can of worms that is pokemon but I'm sure there's plenty of examples I'm not thinking of or don't even know, so throw down any that come to mind below.

EDIT2: So I said I was gonna start working on this issue myself and I think it would be good to document progress as it would help me keep track of what I've already done and might encourage others to contribute. Please leave a message in this thread if you've done what I'm doing for a given character/species tag and remember that its better to err on the side of caution then to mistag.
For the moment, I'm just doing some occasional work on pokemon, but as I've previously said there are plenty of other characters/species that could use some help in this regard. As well as adding anthrofied where needed, I'm also checking up on the usage of feral/anthro. Will also be adding semi-anthro if justified. Here is the process I'm following:
1. Check for necessary feral/anthro/etc tags: TAG -anthro -feral -humanized -humanoidized (also: taur, naga, lumia, etc if applicable)
2. Get your blacklist over with, tag anthrofied if necessary: TAG anthro -anthrofied ~vore ~fart ~scat ~(etc, continue for all the tags in your blacklist)
3. Tag any pics with anthro that should have anthrofied: TAG anthro -anthrofied
(Optional) 3.5. While using TAG anthro -anthrofied, check for any pictures that should have feral instead of anthro
(Optional) 4. Enjoy the fruits of your labor 😏: TAG -anthrofied

Done:

Please don't use the any sort of automation to mass tag images, especially for things a computer can't judge. If you wish to do it by hand that'd be great, but just running a script would likely have too many mistags present to make it worth it.

The idea was to find individual posts that would be appropriate for change and then feed the IDs to a simple update command to add the one tag. I don't think that approach would cause any issues, it wouldn't be some code deciding what to update. Though, now that I think about it, I suppose it probably wouldn't be all that much faster than doing it through the site, but it does have the advantage of being able to edit the post without having to open it fully. Almost all of the time it's very obvious from the thumbnail that the tag is missing. I suppose for the moment I will go download Ungoogled Chrome since shortcuts don't work on Firefox for me, not having to scroll down and click edit every time is at least a little bit of a timesave.

EDIT: Okay nevermind, shortcuts not working has nothing to do with the browser, I had no idea there was a user-side setting for that. This is exponentially faster to do with shortcuts, so out goes the API thing anyways

Updated

I opened this thinking it was going to be generally about semi/almost-anthro species being drawn closer to full-anthro than their official designs.
I'm disappointed.

Still falls within the same problem, making a character more anthro is just that, further anthrofication.

Updated

Yeah, I've noticed the anthrofied tag lacking on a large portion of posts as well. The my_little_pony tag also bears the same problem as pokémon_(species), as many anthro characters that are canonically non-anthro haven't been tagged as anthrofied.

The simple solution is for folks to manually tag the posts that are lacking it. Individuals can dedicate themselves towards tagging anthrofied on the posts that need it (for a period of time), and that should help to populate the tag rather quickly. I've been adding the tag as well, but because of my ocd levels of tagging I'm not quite as rapid on the quantity of posts that I can update.

So, can we come under any consensus as to which Pokemon are already "anthro"?
I look at Salazzle and see anthrofied versions of them. I look at Cinderace and think they're already anthro. I don't know if my judgment is sure enough to go around changing tags.

Part of it comes from personality, I feel. There are less human-like anthros in Animal Crossing characters or some Zootopia characters, but they're bipedal and act like humans. Meanwhile Yoshi is bipedal and acts like an animal.

Some pokemon certainly straddle the line. Salazzle being one such example. I'd say Cinderace (and Raboot, Scorbunny, and Inteleon) are already anthro. Lucario, Braixen, Delphox, Greninja are also some of the more obvious already-anthro choices. My brain has trouble concluding what Midnight Lycanroc and Zoroark should be (when properly on-model, they do come across as biped ferals to me, but it's not difficult to see them as anthro too).

I also see Yoshi as anthrofied in many images, not already anthro.

I wouldn't think an on-model Yoshi is anthro. At least, there's plenty of room for him to be "more anthro".

Oh, oops. Just edited my thing. But, I feel like a lot of it comes across in personality. There are some less human-like characters that are anthro because bipedal + acts like a human. Some Zootopia characters might fit this.

Meanwhile, more human-like bodies while acting like animals means they aren't anthro... until a certain point. That's most of the grey area.

Reminder we have a vastly under-utilised semi-anthro supplemental tag, though it still requires a classification of anthro or feral.

Didn't know that tag existed, guess we're all learning. Anyways, you can still anthrofy anthro (or semi-anthro) pokes. You can give breasts, you can make them plantigrade, give very clear human proportions, etc. The base model doesn't really matter, what matters is if there are any clear diversions from the base model (that make it closer to human).
As taken from the wiki:
Characters that are normally already considered anthro may still be included, but only if they are drawn in a manner that's considerably more human-like (still) than usual.
On the subject of pokemon, let's take midnight Lycanroc as an example, on-model being anthro semi-anthro. I think we can all agree post #2205244 and post #2227857 should clearly be tagged anthrofied, right?. For the vast majority of cases where the tag could be applied, even for M. Lycanroc, Luciario, you name it, things will be mostly cut and dry like the prior examples. If all of the cases where there is a clear reason for applying the tag on a given post were dealt with, it would probably take care of >90% of the posts you could argue deserve the tag.
Why fuss over that <10%? The wiki specifically states considerably more human-like, so edge cases really shouldn't be considered. Posts like post #2216255 (slightly longer and bulkier arms/legs), post #2046009 (nipples, but still flatchested) could be argued to be anthrofied, but shouldn't having to argue the case be a sign that it's too much of an edge case?

Now, the only thing I'm curious about would be mediums where the humans are stylized as well. Animal Crossing, for example.
Should we assume Isabelle is already fully anthro because she's depicted in the same way humans are? AC characters retaining their short, stubby body types are a minority of (lewd) pictures, so most (lewds) would be anthrofied if this is not the case.

Please check the OP, I'm now documenting the work I've done so far and have outlined how you can contribute, please report in this thread if you've done the process on a certain tag.
