Topic: Tagging Help

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could point me to a more in-depth resource for advice on tagging?

For a little backstory, I had a spur a year or two ago where I was working on tagging a lot of posts. I read the relevant rules on tagging, and I thought I understood them pretty well. But a day or so after I set some tags, I got two negative records for Tagging Vandalism. I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty scared that my account would get deleted for it. So, now I don't massively tag anymore.

Anyway, those records have expired, and I think I wanna try contributing again. But I'm not sure I can do it right based of the rules stated in the wiki alone. If anyone had another resource, like some sort of user-made survival handbook or the likes, I would really appreciate it.

oh and if I posted this incorrectly or in the wrong place, just let me know and I'll delete it ASAP so it doesn't need to be taken down; the help section about the forum is only two sentences.

It's pretty much based on tagging whatever is pictured in an image. If you tagged it as best and accurately as you can, then you got nothing to worry about.

This guide helped me.

Don't know if it's the one you saw.

Thanks for sending this. I don't think I've seen it before, but it does seem familiar. Thank you

I used to use that a lot as well, it's a good checklist :)

If you have a Discord account I'd suggest joining the E6 one. There's a channel for tagging discussions and you'll get a lot faster responses if you're having trouble.
(There a chat link on the top bar that says how to join.)

Without knowing what the vandalism records were for it's hard to give advice, like if you mis-tagged genders/rating, or if they were more for general tags.

What are you most worried about mis-tagging?

Also, if it's something you'd like to do, there's forum #271663 which has several tagging projects that you could help out with. It's surprising how many posts are missing a character count, for example:
-none_pictured -solo -duo -group

Then, just in case you didn't know, there's an often overlooked feature when adding tags, if you click "related tags" under the tag box a list shows up at the bottom, for each tag it lists other tags that're often tagged as well as that one, then you can just click to add them.

What exactly did you get slapped for? We could go into the details of twys, but that won't help one bit if your problem was tagging 200+ sfw posts of boyscouts with double_knot.

I wish I could tell you, honestly, it's been over a year. As well as the records vanishing, the memories have gotten fuzzy. I do remember a specific occurrence where two anthro dragons were sitting in a bath together. The water was opaque (so you couldn't see anything below the waist), and they weren't explicitly doing anything lewd. So, while I was adding tags, I set the rating to Q. A day or so later, the uploader (who I now know was the artist) PMed me asking why I did that, and I said its because E621 does tag-as-you-see, even though the artist might have their own idea for what's going on. They didn't reply, but it got me a negative record, and I probably got more spooked by that than was reasonable.

There's also just a distinct possibility I'm just inept at observation, which I wouldn't dismiss, hah.

Oh yeah, and since then, the post had been taken down, but changed back to Q by else before it was.

>I have a feeling, from how specific that is, that someone actually did that

But, yeah, I think I'll try the Discord. Thanks for pointing it out.

I find it a bit odd that you'd get a negative record for one rating mis-tagged, normally you get a neutral one first, unless you did it on a few.

I've tagged Q before when I wasn't sure if it counted as Q or S, as it's better for safe art to show in Q/E rather than Q/E in safe, and someone just swapped the tags later. I feel reporting for one-off mis-tags is a bit much, and again you should have had a neutral first, if that's what the reason was.
