In the past 24 hours a character I've come to know and admire by their tag sherri_aura was recently made DNP by their associated artist tag.

Being that I don't desire an account on FurAffinity (forget their tagging system), for me as an individual, it's very likely that this character will fall off my radar unless I search for them on FA after looking through my personal collection since they're no longer showing in my usual hunting grounds here.

I was curious about other people. Do you still follow DNP'ed artists and characters or do they fade into obscurity?

e6 isn't the be all or end all, it's an image booru. If you like an artist / character follow them other places.

Depends how they left. If in a huff due to misunderstanding the tagging rules then yes, I definitely stop following them.

Some are like Whygena, who left because terrible whiteknight fans were actually harassing admins. I still follow Whygena.

Would also be cool to see such whiteknights banned, to not lose a great artist who was so understanding of the rules

I generally go back to the artist source when I find stuff here, but outside FA I don't really follow them so if they go DNP here I probably won't see their stuff unless it comes up in a search for the tags I browse across a few sites; this is entirely dependent on them tagging their works which tons don't. I dislike maintaining accounts for every site, and I abhor Twitter.

Other than that I don't really let their status here affect if I follow them, but if it was for more abrasive reasons I'll probably not approach them to comment on their works or journals at all.

All the time, but I don't use FA for various reasons.

I don't, I think it's an arrogant and counterproductive thing to try to remove your art from anywhere on the net that you deem not to post it, regardless of the reasoning.

Control over where creative works are uploaded was on life support in the Napster and Limewire days. Dead in the Pirate Bay days. Buried in 2019.

As long as we have the Russosphere and decentralized platforms, artists will only be able to punish sites that actually have some respect for them, like e621. Using the takedown tool is a black mark in my book.

Usually if they aren't on e621 they don't exist for me until someone links it in a discord or something.

I confess I don't, which is exactly why I'm bothered by them going DNP. e621 is great as an agregator, because there're way too many artists to keep track of, and most of them post to several different sites. I have to limit the time I waste on the internet, you understand.

I have been saying for a few years that piracy, in general, only ever gets easier, because of the very nature of digital products. They can be copied indefinite times, and that throws a spin on the usual supply and demand mechanism, which assumes, among other things, scarcity. It's obviously true with material goods, but not with information. Based on this, I'd say that PWYW will eventually be the norm for online content, with anomalies like Steam thriving out of some extra factor, which in this case, is convenience. Kids these days just click twice to buy a game, twice more to install and off they go. Back in my day, we had to configure sound cards, and they were made out of WOOD.

I try to when I can, but since I don't really use any other sites exclusively to find furry art, I'll have trouble remembering WHERE a specific artist posts to. And that's assuming the artist doesn't wipe every last trace of their art (Rare but not impossible. For instance, Eifie somehow managed to get most of their art pulled from Paheal and furry.booru)

Nah.
I'm subscribed to a few patreons, but beyond that I don't really follow artists. So if they go DNP, I tend to quickly forget that they're still active. Out of sight, out of mind, that kind of thing.
