I saw that a new picture containing my own character, specifically post #1841019 has the species tagged as monkey_humanoid and other humanoid species tags, while the character itself is fully a monkey, and not intended to be humanoid. Another post, post #1686658 contains the same character, but without the humanoid tags. My question is whether the species falls under the "tag what you see" rule, or if it would be acceptable to change the tags in the former post to represent what is intended to be displayed in the image?

Only names are excluded from TWYS, so you can put character tag on both of the posts if it isn't already, but the species is based on how the character seems in post. You can then put additional character bio in the wiki ? next to character tag or post description which doesn't have to be TWYS.

Problem with any anthro primate is that that's kinda what humans technically are, so I have actually bumped into many anthro monkeys which seem so humanlike it's almost impossible to tell them from regular human, especially without visible tail and feet looking more like human feet rather than human hands. And humanoid characters are human like characters and there's no clear indication if that's skin or fur on the body.

I'm not going to argue which points of the character design should make it count as one or the other, but since it has already been tagged as purely monkey once before, I think it would be fair to add that as a tag under the species as well so it at least shows up when people search for that tag, right?

This is exactly why character tags exsist and why they can be tagged externally. This way if people do see your character, they can search all of it, regardless how else it's tagged.

There are stuff like humanized ponies in form of equestria girls, these shouldn't be tagged with pony, but as characters can still be tagged, so this way you can search for pinkie pie which isn't necessarily pony. Also stuff like rule63 exsists to the point where some characters actually have seperate male and female forms by canon, so even gender tagging shouldn't be done just because the character is the same between posts.

Users can also do searches like ~monkey ~monkey_humanoid to search all monkey species regardless if they are humanoid or not.

In this case I do agree to degree that both of these posts do have extremely similarly drawn character, so inconsistancy with tagging feels wrong. I just personally can't take stance wheter they both should be tagged with monkey or monkey_humanoid.

If the character is a specific type of monkey (and does look like it), please do tag that too! we love more specific species names <3

To follow up with what Mairo put, I once saw a post of Pyroar where it was clearly a female Pyroar with a penis, because it had female Pyroar's long stripe mane. Though of course, it had no overtly feminine features or female body parts besides female Pyroar's body features and proportions, meaning it wouldn't be taggable as dickgirl, and would instead be a girly male at best.

I don't think I can link to it though, since I think it's been taken down, which is a shame since it'd help with illustrative purposes.
