Topic: What are allowed on edits

Posted under General

What are allowed for edits? I uploaded an edit that I thought followed the rules, but it was deleted or wasn't approved.

The upload guidelines have a section for this:

Edits
  • edits of images need to be at least on the same level of quality as the original

** low effort edits (adding stories, changing text, bucket fill coloring, cutting out parts, etc) are not allowed

    • Translating speech bubbles from any language into english is permitted, however.
      • We only accept an english translation and the original language, we will not host additional translations
  • Coloring "bases" (template images) are not permitted if they haven't been performed by the original artist of the base
    • we will only accept up to 5 versions of any given base
  • Neural Network and AI edits are not permitted, regardless of type of edit (uncensoring, coloring, denoise, etc)

If you feel an image of yours has been deleted unfairly do not hesitate to contact us and ask for clarification.

In addition, some of the artists which are conditional DNP specify that they don't want edits of their artwork uploaded, as outlined here.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say post #2157486 is what you're referring to, and the deletion states that it's a low quality/effort edit. Whether or not it was is up for debate, since normal users can't see it, but it was deleted for those grounds. If you upload it to an image hosting site, like imgur.com, you can show us the image and we could tell you why it was deleted.

From looking around a little, I'll take my own stab and assume the edit was this image. Looking at it, not only is it an edit of an edit, for whatever that's worth (the edited image appears to be a crop of its parent post which focuses on the faces) but it appears to be a real (backgroundless) photograph edited in there and clashing with the style. I'd imagine if the person were to have drawn the popsicle themself instead of photoshopping one in there, it would be a different story.

Correct. That's fair, I suppose. I feel like I've seen similar quality edits kept up, but I won't challenge it.

It's worth keeping in mind that a notable amount of art here, especially among older images, has been "grandfathered in" and is allowed to remain despite not necessarily being up to the current rules/standards.
