Topic: Should an image be tagged with "incest" if the characters look nothing alike and are only related canonicly?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

For example:

These characters don't look enough alike to be obviously related, and there's no text to indicate that they're related. The only reason the image is tagged with incest is because, presumably, the characters are related in My Little Pony canon (I don't know for sure because I've never seen the show). Another example might be this:

This picture gives us no clue that the characters are related, unless I'm missing something. The only hint that they are is in the description, and I'm not sure that counts.

That's not to say that incest always needs to be stated:

For example, those characters look enough alike to where it's obviously incestual in nature. Either that or the sister is just a trooper. Either way, good on her.

But, surely there's a point at which TWYSNWYK comes into play. I'm just not sure, and don't wish to remove tags if they are indeed valid.

Familial relations are one of the few tags (like character names) allowed to be Tag What You Know, simply because it just wouldn't be feasible to be Tag What You See. So TWYS doesn't apply in regards to that.

I understand. Thank you! Would it be ok if I updated the tag wiki page to this effect, and could I recommend a "stated_incest" tag?

I don't see what adding it would hurt. Tbh the TWYK tags should all probably at least mention it imho.

I would probably make a tag based thread about your recommendation and see people's responses

Would that go in this same forum topic, "Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions"?

Yep, that's where my projects and new suggestions when I make them

im p sure that twys applies to familial relationship tags to the extend that you cant tag for example sibling on image of a moose and pigeon just because the artist says that they are biological siblings (or at least i have seen an admin rule that incest tag doesnt belong to some image because the characters were different species)

Really? I've seen the opposite personally.

I mean there exists a technical_incest tag for non-biological relations, which probably wouldn't be used if this wasn't the case

Technical incest is a bit more of an exception, but I really don't think that the incest tag itself should be used if they're completely different species. A moose and pigeon can be adopted family, but not biological family.

I wouldn't say that, necessarily. We're already dealing with anthropomorphic animals with human dicks that can speak English, I don't think inter-species familes is too much further to jump.

Why are you making absolute statements about unknowable fictional biology here? How the fuck could anyone possibly know for a fact that in a world of anthropomorphic animals of different species cannot be biologically related.

What about like the main characters of the_amazing_world_of_gumball, that's a family of two different species that are canonically blood related, should they just be ignored for incest because they're not the same species? Why would we do that? That'd make the tag pretty much infinitely more useless.

There is a fair amount of work speculating that the children of Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps would turn out to be foxes or bunnies, without evident blending of species. It's a fairly common trope, in fact.

The main thing you should consider is where the line is drawn between common knowledge and expert knowledge.

For example:

1. Most people won't know that a male Twilight Sparkle is called Dusk Shine (I certainly didn't know that), but most people will know that the character is female.

2. Most people will know that a Pikachu is a pokemon, but most people won't know that if the tail is heart-shaped then it is female.

On that note most people will know that if two of the TMNT characters are having sex, it's incest. Other cases are not so obvious.

Usually any fanfic relations are not tagged as it isn't obviously cannon to anyone not involved directly with that specific fandom.

Also, the text in an image has no impact on how it is tagged.

If there is a picture of a cat with text saying: "This is a dog." it will still be tagged with cat.

I hope this helps. :)
