Topic: New tag suggestion: Eulipotyphlan

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Oof, a bit of a mouthful of a name, but it is the proper name for these types of mammals. Anyways:

Eulipotyphlans are an order of mammals comprising of the (currently living):

They all are small, quadrupedal, often nocturnal mammals, related by a "shrew-like" common ancestor. All are, appropriately, often scientifically described as being "shrew-like" in form. They all have slender snouts and most have at least partial insectivorous diets, being avid foragers of the ground around them. They often have small ears and all have very small eyes, most have incredibly poor vision, though some have slightly-better-but-still-quite-poor short sightedness.

Anyways I feel this would benefit filtering and searching for these kinds of mammal types. Shrew was missing some sort of implication to mammal anyways, so this'll also fix that. Two birds with one stone. Anywho, the usual related implication and alias proposals:

Related Eulipotyphlan Implications

Related Eulipotyphlan Aliases

1 Mole is very often mistagged, as people use it mistakenly when trying to tag mole_(marking), and also the word is often used for other things as well. It might be better to move all mole tag posts to mole_(animal), then alias the mole tag to a disambig. However, this is just my personal opinion; we can stick with the base mole tag if people disagree, but I feel this would help a lot in mistags.

2 Wasn't sure where to place this guy; while they are a for sure a eulipotyphlan, they are Talpids, aka in the same family as the mole, so they are somewhat closely related. Either implication would be fine to me given their heavy similarities, but some may not find a direct mole implication appropriate here

3 Currently empty tag, but Does have content; just not uploaded yet. Going to probably upload them soon

4 The elephant shrew is not a true shrew at all, and due to the name often gets confused as such. This is similar to the vontsira species issue, in which ring-tailed_vontsira are widely known as ring-tailed_mongoose despite not being mongoose or even herpestids at all, rather being related to fossa as a euplerid The sengi is another common name for the elephant shrew and its subspecies, so this alias I feel could help avoid mistagging.

EDIT: this post was formatted really poorly and strangely at first... I blame my poor internet scrambling my text for some reason. good thing I saved a text backup

Bumping with heavy editing to apologize: this post was really scrambled for some odd reason, and I had already fallen asleep so I couldn't fix it until now when I was awake. My guess is my sleep meds finally kicked in the moment I submitted this forum so I submitted it while out of it. Sincerest apologies!
