Topic: Tag Implication: pet_tag -> collar_tag

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag implication #11980 pet_tag -> collar_tag has been rejected.
(OLD text: Implicating pet_tag -> collar_tag)

Reason:

Looked at most uploads of both tags and pet_tag objects are similar to the collar_tag objects (all similar tags attached to a collar). Or aliasing pet_tag TO collar_tag is fine with me too.

(Most show anthro with a collar_tag.)

If we go with implication, then change the pet_tag anthro uploads to just collar_tag.
And then after that cleanup the only ones tagged with pet_tag will be pets with a collar such as post #1441258
or maybe post #1439722

EDIT: The tag implication pet_tag -> collar_tag (forum #251330) has been rejected by @ListerTheSquirrel.

+1 for alias, I don,t think we need a separate tag for collar tags attached to collars on "non-intelligent" animals.

Related question:

I see name_tag includes some collar tags.

Should a collar_tag with name on it get tagged as collar_tag AND name_tag ?

(name_tag wiki doesn't mention collar_tags and currently says "Generally a tag, sometimes a sticker, that's plastered on a character or their clothing, usually to display their name,
but can have any other form of text as well. Can usually be seen with the heading "Hello, My name is..."."

Also to consider:

id_card, id_badge - more for the 'work place ID' sorta thing

I'd probably split it, conceptually, into 2 things:

1 - a small metal tag that goes on a collar to identify the being wearing the collar--be it an animal or a person.
2 - a paper/plastic card that is intended to be used as identity verification between 'sentient beings'. so... drivers licences, id badges, hello-my-name-is stickers, etc.

1 should probably be something like collar_name_tag ... I think 'collar' is an important word to have in the name, as is 'tag'. Those are the words I'd search for to try and find the name of the tag. This should imply collar_tag of course.

Not sure what I'd call 2.

There also is...

dog_tags - a type of military-inspired necklace that was intended to be for indentification purposes.
ear_tag - tags attached to an animal's ear to provide identification

That said, dog tags and ear tags are very distinct and highly tagged things. I'd leave 'em alone. :) though it'd be possible, i think, for overlap.

pet_tag -collar returns one post... with a barely visible collar. In theory, not every "pet tag" is attached to a collar. In practice? Alias to collar_tag is probably fine (or just empty pet_tag into collar_tag if appropriate).

Worth saying we're not supposed to tag or assume intelligence, at least when tagging feral.

Probably fine. Pet tags aren't among the first things I think of when enumerating types of name tags, but I don't think this use is wrong either. Generally, I would rather see notable things tagged with the most appropriate tag even if that tag might not seem entirely appropriate. Sometimes what is "appropriate" is unclear anyway, and sometimes the greater mistake is defaulting to an overly narrow tag identity that no one verbally agreed to.
