Topic: Uploading edits of images by authors who don't exist

Posted under General

So, I found myself doing some edits of some older gifs in my spare time. I thought "hey, this is pretty good. I'll show it to a friend." They suggested uploading it to the site, but the problem is the author kind of... nuked themselves. They no longer have an online presence, even if their art still remains.

Is it safe to upload the edits even though I technically don't have the original author's permission? I've been sitting on it for a while, but I figured I'd ask the actual professionals before I get myself banned.

Worst case, they'll just get a takedown request. You won't get banned, you won't even get a record unless you upload more from that same artist after a takedown.

In that case, I don't think I'll have much of a problem. Pokehidden doesn't even really exist anymore, sadly... I was just wondering if I'd have any trouble with moderators and whatnot.

Oh, Pokehidden eh? They have works here, yes, so it should work out just fine.

Well the thing with Pokehidden is that it's a bit of an unorthodox situation. I'm sure you're aware. They deleted every account they had, and in practicality no longer exists. Which is what had me confused: If there's no way to contact the original artist, is it still safe to upload an edit? Thanks for the help.

I would think it alright to upload an edit so long as you attribute pokehidden as the original artist. For tags, it would be pokehidden plus whomever did the edit. And like what Furrin Gok said,

I was the editor, so would I attribute myself as such? Or just leave the artist section as "Pokehidden" and nothing more?

I believe so, yes. And include edit in the tags when you upload.
