Recently ive been klicking around a few old forum posts trying to learn a little about the beginnings and former owners of this sitr and stumbled upon remnants of old stories that happened here.
From previously praised moderators abusing their powers leading to permabans, to users who became infamous for their bad comments or the site participating in protests to secure internet freedom.

As a newer user i wondered: what stories do you remember from the old Times?
I'm really curious to find out how the community started out

A Brief History of e621

In the beginning was Arcturus. The world was filled with darkness, chaos, and mellis's rage. The site subsisted on pirate content, gathered from all corners of the web, except Sexyfur. Boorus were all the rage, and FurAffinity sucked, and so times were not awful.

But there was weeping and gnashing of teeth. "Lo!" cried the artists. "Please don't post our pay-for content! In fact, stop posting our work at all!"

Before long, there was a tumult. The site came to a halt, replaced by an FBI Takedown warning.

Praise be to Varka! The site, once broken, had been renewed.

Moderation changed. Policies changed. Artists stopped universally hating the site. Money stopped being a problem. Site development progressed. And we all lived happily ever after (well, most of us, but I don't feel it would be appropriate to link to the specific high-level drama that I'm thinking of).

in short
site starts, bad admins, rogue behavior all around, many funny bans and funny record given.

years go by, site becomes tamer as crazy admins are removed for being crazy.

site is bought by the number one animal themed stretcher of arseholes, rules and guidelines are streamlines to make the site more like a product and less like a furry anarchists cockbook.

in the end the site is a lot more boring these days but its more fair, easier to use, and better in pretty much all regards.

You make it sound like you read these threads (1 2 ). I definitely posted about that stuff in them.

Search the forum for "epic ban reasons", like so.

Forum games (1 2 ) used to gunk up the forums.

I liked the old guard who put in a lot of good work making this site better from what is was. Most of the people I put in that group have been gone for years or are no longer present in that capacity. It was nice to watch, even though I did not participate. Clearly, furry and e621 is a phase for, I presume, "young adults". Most move on. I should give the newer very good users the credit they deserve, but the forums don't feel the same. I would like to see e621 improve again.

I've only been really active in the past 2-3 years, so I don't have many old stories.

um, I helped get this guy banned.

That's pretty much it.

I will say that if I had been active before Char's administration, I probably would not be here today.

There was the guy who had thousands of tag edits and all were overjoyed, but then the tags were found to be in error and time was lost. It was not the first time, but it was the last.
