Reason:

Ponification as a term is taking a character, whether they be human or anthro or feral or generally anything, and changing their species into a pony. Ergo: alternate species.

nah, if you take for example this horse, draw it in mlp style and slap cutie mark on it, the style change and cutie mark would make it pretty goddamn obviously ponification, not just shrinking.

No? That's just making it in the style of a show. If you aren't changing something that isn't an equine into one, it's not ponification.

That's right, it doesn't. That's just pokemon with a picture on their flank. It may get the MLP tag based on the them of cutie marks, but that doesn't mean it gets ponification.

listen, ponification is not only about species. its more about turning non-mlp character into something that resembles mlp characters. its a tag for specific type of crossover content.

talk about a cumbersome tag, of cource going by the wiki it denotes mlp, problem is ponies are not just a mlp species, they are a real life grouping of equine species, what is to be done when alternate forms involve real life pony and not mlp's earth ponies?

That should be all it is anyways. MLP for cutie marks, but otherwise just alternate species. There's no need for an MLP specific version of it.

What about the tag tells me that it relates to mlp and not the regular species, understand that wiki's are supplementary in most cases to the literal definition of the term itself used as a tag and obviously the fact not everyone reads wikis, stating that bananas are vegetables in its wiki won't change that from the definition of the term itself used as a tag we understand that it is in fact a fruit and not a vegetable. same with ponyfication, the bare definition of the term it self is alternate pony based form, dragonification is the same thing just dragon instead of pony. definition of the term itself used as a tag is always superior to what is in the wiki, that is why one obviously can't just put anything in the wiki.

The tag is meant to refer specifically to MLP-style pony versions of things, and a more intuitive term than "rule 85". Changing something into a real pony isn't covered by this.

That not the definition of term ponyfication thou and it certainly is not intuitive when the tag it self makes no difference between what kind of pony we are talking about. You don't see dragonification standing for any one type of dragon so nor does ponyfication.

And the OP noted pony as the reason Not mlp.

I really don't see why you can't get it when the species is apart of the very tag being discused here. A character is changed into a pony based form, therefore it's ponyfication, the tag is not mlp-ponyfication or earth-ponyfication, it is just ponyfication and again the tag pony which is apart of the discused tag stands for all pony real and fictional, not just fictional.

PS: the know your meme link does note that the used style may often be derivative of mlp but does not state that ponyfication is exclusively mlp based pony species.
