Topic: "Emo" needs work

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I think some of those images would be more at home under goth, which is more clearly defined with fashion that includes "dyed black hair, black lips and black clothes". Both goth and emo stem from musical genres and their resulting cultures, but from what I understand (mostly from this post ), if they're wearing all black with black lipstick and black nailpaint, they're likely goth. If their outfit is mostly black with some colorful accessories, they're likely emo. As I understand it, this is goth and this is emo, for example.

I have no justification for why emo is being tagged on completely naked and otherwise unmarked characters.

It's even occasionally mixed up with punk. But admittedly those can be hard to differentiate from drawn images.

In terms of porn, punk fashion is raggedy and kind of dirty, goth is essentially wearing all black and gothic clothing, and emo would basically be wearing dark clothing with some colorful highlights

Aren't there a lot of different punk styles, though? Some of that even includes plain clothes.

Well, yes. But we can't really tag the plain style as punk by twys.

This may be outdated, but here's how I see the punk-style: jeans, bullet belts, silver studs and piercings, denim and leather, Doc Martens, uncommon hair colors and anti-conformist styles (such as mohawk or clean-shaved). Unkempt dirty appearance preferred over clean and chic.

As for goth, that's easiest to sort by the appearance: black clothing with victorian or antique influences, long hair, silver jewelry (with motifs such as pentagrams, ankhs, skulls) and piercings, dark makeup.

I thought "Punk" was goth with some red thrown in (either highlights, outlines, or up to but not passing half)

Punk fashion is modern, ragged, and edgy. That's pretty far from goth.

What defines emo?

Jumpers and hoodies, and heavy use of eyeliner?

But seriously, the hairstyle is probably the most recognizable aspect. Hair with a long fringe, often brushed over one eye.

Is it possible for someone to have that hairstyle without being emo, or does having that hairstyle necessarily requires emo to be tagged?

(would it be better to have an "emo hairstyle" tag?)

i don't believe this tag can be objectively defined, in which case it would be better to create definitions that those looking for "emo" results would enjoy finding. unfortunately i'm not emo, so i can hardly contribute to such definitions.

If we do get that tag, I vote we call it "emover"

Clever, but it's more commonly called emo swoop.
