Topic: Tulpa Thread

How many other people here have a tulpa? (For those who don't know, a tulpa is a separate entity created with it's own consciousness in one's mind, basically an "imaginary friend".)

I'll start with mine, my tulpa is a Latias.

Feel free to post about your own tulpa if you have one, or even ask me about mine if you want.

Well, how should I start...

I have three, since childhood. They are an anthropomorphic black bird, a floating apple and a shapeshifter white mass (he usually takes the shape of either a person or a ball).

It is good to know I am not the only one, although is a bit strange to talk about this.

this peacock just keeps yelling for no fucking reason, mostly when someone else is talking to me

This is going to sound a little self-absorbed, but my tulpa is myself... except that it's not my actual physical body that I associate it with. It's like talking to myself, but not. My brain is litterally talking to itself, verbalizing it's thoughts for it's own confirmation or amusement.

It's like living in Donald Trump's head, minus about 65% of the self-righteousness, pussy-grabbing, wall-building and what-not.

"I'm going to build a wall and make myself pay for it."

i guess i have something like that because im maladaptive daydreamer and i have long conversations and interactions with all sorts of characters in my head but i they come and go as the daydreaming scenarios and subjects change based on my current interests

I have a few. The number has grown over the years, but essentially the characters I make that stick with me take over a part of my mind. Not like I was using a ton of that space. Every time I look into my mind I see a big ol' void with scattered bits of thoughts and otherwise just doors.

I have a psychic connection to a certain removed part of my anatomy. It has grown its own consciousness and allows me to communicate with the spirits of dead careers.

Mine belongs in the dream-world, though who is who's figment of imagination. I have no idea.

I've never had any form of imaginary friend, or 'tulpa'. I guess that's part and parcel to being a cold pragmatist with zero ability to dream or even create a mental image.

I'm not sure what psychological background would be required to want to or subconsciously create such a being, but it's certainly fascinating that others experience it. I'd be interested in hearing more about how these imaginary sentient beings manifest themselves.

For me, it was mostly out of loneliness that she came to me. I lived out in the middle of nowhere with no siblings and didn't have many friends at school, so I made her to have someone to talk to. I know she's not conventionally real, but my relationship with her feels more real and meaningful than almost any other relationship I've had with any real people. Real people are capable of hurting and betraying your friendship and kindness, but a tulpa is better than that (at least, in my experience)

I have one but I only use it when I'm writing a script or trying to think of new ideas for my videos. It's like my creative partner :V

talking to oneself...while not necessarily one, it is considered a sign of some form of insanity or madness iirc. pretty common really. dunno wtf the word "tulpa" came from though.

but yeah, i tend to talk to myself and things that aren't there fairly often too.

edit: Tulpa: A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own free will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you.

ok, that sounds ever so slightly disturbing though that would explain a few things... >.>

no, but my memories themselves sometimes have a will of their own. but I don't think revised memories to always be the one at fault count much in the way of imaginary friends. That's just me proving Rosseau wrong.

Ah yes, I have heard some folks say that they use tulpas to help with programming, or just for generic problem-solving.

It does seem like an useful method for tapping into the normally unused portions of the brain. I've never had enough time or focus to get past the first stages of creating one. Might need to give it an another try.

i just thought of something... what episode was it... i don't remember which but there was one of the early episodes of dragon ball super (and i'm fairly certain this is a irl martial arts technique...maybe. heck if i know the name of it though. >.>) where Whis mentions a technique where his hands and feet are able to move independently of his own thoughts.

i wonder if this tulpa stuff is in any way related to that technique. i mean, the way it works sounds similar enough...

if that really is an irl martial arts technique then i imagine it's a VERY advanced one as the learning curve for it that Whis mentions is so steep that even a god such as beerus had yet to master it and he's probably...how old?

"Creating" a Tulpa would be inefficient. That they act upon their own will with their own emotions and responses means you can't have control over them. While you may be able to meditate to the point where you can section off a portion of your mind and create a persona to it, you have to then leave it be. Let it grow into it's own ethereal entity. That's where the challenge comes from--People want something that can actually be useful for a specific purpose, but you need to just take what you get.

It sounds as though you have had a pretty good experience with this kind of thing, good on ya

All of the brain is used at some point. We have a word for people who can use all of it at once. Epileptics.
