A sitting anthro character, depicted realistically, would most likely have its tail protruding forward between legs. Tails are supposed to follow spine curvature, and that's where the spine points.

Lots of artists prefer to shove it back however, often at impossible angles to the spine, because presumably it looks better that way:

There is tail_between_legs but it's more about the end of the tail, not its base. Something like tail_back won't do either, it is possible to sit like that without risking a fracture:
