Topic: e621 notification app

Posted under e621 Tools and Applications

I haven't been very active in the community, but I visit e621 just about every day and developed a little app for personal use. I polished it up and made it available in case anyone else might find the app useful.

The app sends notifications (with a little icon in the notification bar) when new images are posted featuring tags of interest. The app itself shows thumbnails for the most recent posts with these tags of interest. As a note, the default domain is e926.net, but this can be changed in the settings.

The app is available on the Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kalahari.jackl

My background is not in programming, but it's a hobby and I want to keep working on it. Feedback is totally welcome.

Neat. So it's like tag subscriptions, except it works and it's available to everybody.

That's the idea. Not having access to tag subscriptions, myself.

5 stars, very nice app. Can anyone confirm that this works on Nougat? Supposedly getting that update "soon".

Happy it's working well! I tested this on an api 25 (Nougat) virtual device and didn't encounter any issues.

This is a great little app, thank you for developing and sharing it.

Please set a user agent for your application requests so that they can be differentiated from normal requests. Jsoup allows doing this using the chained method .userAgent("Jackl 1.0.4 (by Kalahari)") after the connect call. Your application is currently masquerading as a browser. If you need help testing this, let me know.

Very good info. I'll get this implemented and put out in an update as soon as I can.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I can assure you it's not.

It isn't a competition. We're all just trying to make e621 more accessible. Overlap within that area just gives people additional choices. They will pick what they are most comfortable with. In the end, that's a win for everyone.

I can't see why you'd think it is a competition lel, i just posted it because i thought this was made by the inspiration of my bot. but ok.

Don't use word 'stolen' when you don't hold exclusive patent on a thing. :p

I had similar thing implemented in my Telegram bot for a while now, announced it for active users only.

Sorry to revive a 4-year-dead thread, but is there another download for this if it's still able to run? Would love to get this.

That telegram notifier can only hold like a dozen tags
