Why is foal aliased to pony? A foal is *any* very young horse, not only a pony.

It should probably be aliased to cub. Lack of cub tag produces more drama than lack of species tag. Besides that filly, and colt are also aliased to cub.

Yeah, this would be the best alias. I looked about earlier and you even get zebra foals, so a species alias would just be confusing.
