How do I blacklist explicit images with males that are alone, but not blacklist solo male images that are safe? How would the blacklist combo work?

We have to live with that. The most important tags aren't always up to date.

all you can do is to add missing tags and maybe send a friendly priva message if you notice that some specific user forgets constantly use gender tags or solo tag and ask them to try add the missing tags in future.

You can more of the missing ones with lines like this:

solo balls -intersex -breasts -disembodied_penis -faceless_male -female
solo penis -intersex -breasts -disembodied_penis -faceless_male -female
solo male -female -intersex
solo girly -female -intersex -breasts

Depending on whether or not you are fine with intersex of course. It should also help prevent filtering out some of the more common mistags (e.g., a "solo" female character giving another male character oral [should be solo_focus duo]).

You may have to play with them a bit to fill in the gaps, but that's the general idea.

Explanation:

solo balls -intersex -breasts -disembodied_penis -faceless_male -female
solo penis -intersex -breasts -disembodied_penis -faceless_male -female

Anything solo with balls/penis, but isn't tagged with: breasts, disembodied_penis, faceless_male, intersex, or female - It works because by our definition males don't have breasts, and common male and female-related features also apply to intersex characters (solo or not).

solo male -female -intersex

Any solo male that's also tagged female/intersex - It works because these would all be considered mistags in some way (either because more than one character is present, or because the character is mistagged as male).

solo girly -female -intersex -breasts

Girly is rarely tagged outside of male characters, but when it is those characters shouldn't be blacklisted.
