I did some intense tag searches yesterday to find images like this, and there doesn't seem to be a tag in place for it.

Is this a good/common/specific enough act to have its own tag? I'm not sure exactly what it should be called either, so suggestions there would be great too!

It could use its own tag. threesome licking straight bisexual penetration didn't work too well.

The only thing I can think of is 'licking_penetration', but I think that sounds kind of odd. :\

"penetration_licking" might work better if we're going that route. It's not as ambiguous to me, as "licking_penetration" could just imply penetration with a tongue.

Is there a general rule of thumb on whether tags describing acts should be nouns adjectives or verbs? (I hope you understand what I mean by this; I'm second guessing myself and my words. It's the difference between "penetration_licking" and "licking_penetration" respectively.)

This project currently on the front forum page may be relevant: forum #161156. It deals with licking tags, and this new licking tag should fit with the decided standard for such things.

But... I'm unsure if any work is being done on it, or if any conclusions have been reached.

The problem with this is that it isn't always the female currently being licked, and more often the male. I don't think the tag should focus on only the male or female genitals, since the entire point of it is about licking the coupling of them. This kind of thing also wouldn't scale to include anal penetration.

"oral_while_penetrated", "oral_during_sex", or "oral_during_penetration" could easily describe another kind of group sex act, where a character being penetrated gives oral to a third character, like a spitroast, so those don't work for me. "third_party_oral" is a bit more ambiguous and could work, but I'm not sure.

Wait what? I think it used to be like that, but for the past good while I would get a lot of "invalid_tag" tags applied to my uploads, so I figured that now only officially approved tags can be used.

It's always a good idea to bring new tag ideas to the forum for discussion. There may already be a tag in use that does the job, or for help wording a tag, like here.

I like third_party_oral the most so far.

It's pretty okay, I could just see it getting confused with perhaps two characters giving the same other character oral. "penetration_licking" sounds a bit ridiculous, but it has my vote as the most clear and logical so far.

You can add any new tags you like, but be sure there isn't an existing tag already present. That's when blips and the forums come in handy, like your tag discussion right here. Or you can just google "<tag> e621"

You can add a new tag into a post just by throwing it into the tag pool of the post, you can read more here .

The reason why you're getting invalid_tags is because you're entering an existing tag that has been officially approved by an admin to be invalid, they could mean nothing, be too vague, or too obvious(like eyes, leg or arm).

Ahh that's good to know, and makes sense in hindsight.

As of now for this new tag, it seems we'd either go with "third_party_oral" (which has the most votes in this thread currently) or "penetration_lick"* (which is a bit more specific/descriptive and meshes with (some of) the numerous tags which already exist for licking: https://e621.net/wiki?title=lick).

*(The clean-up from forum #161156 seems to have not occurred yet, so we're in a bit of a limbo on whether this potential tag should be "penetration_licking", "penetration_lick", or "licking_penetration"... "penetration_lick" would seem to match the most common/popular tags.)

Yeah, this is a good point. Is it worth making another new tag specifically for this if "third_party_oral" was chosen? Something like "penetration_lick" would cover both scenarios, but it's debatable if they should even be homogenized. I'd argue that it'd be alright to do so, since the amount of material covered seems scarce to begin with. I don't have a single example of a self-lick scenario. Maybe some exist in the feral realm, since poking around back there seems to be a thing dogs naturally do while mating.
