Topic: How to properly "Upload from URL" DA pics?

Posted under e621 Tools and Applications

For some reason, I'm unable to directly upload from Deviantart. For example, when I try to upload this simple sketch:

http://rainbowdashie.deviantart.com/art/Super-cool-pony-base-544909104

I press the Download button and I get URL of the full-resolution pic

http://www.deviantart.com/download/544909104/super_cool_pony_base__by_rainbowdashie-d90fak0.png?token=d5f67c58cbedb8b035e0509cbb76f1455e7bd53f&ts=1456614037

1. When I enter it whole, I get "Error: File is an invalid content type"

2. When I delete the token part, I get "Error: Source couldn't be opened: Permission denied - /home/e621/e621-production/releases/20160126060000/public/data/6635edd91a092aa6207189033017eb53.upload"

3. When I also delete the http:// part, I get "Error: File not found, try uploading again"

Is there some trick to this? I found nothing in the Wiki.

I tried this with several pics, but it rarely works. When I click the download button, a new window pops up. Then I can see "tranferring data from origXX.deviantart.com" in the status bar, but the address in the address bar is the same as the main DA link. It behaves the same in Firefox and IE. I even tried to look at the page source codes, but I still can't see the direct links. Please try these pics and let me know if you're able to get their links:

Right click the image -> copy image location. Paste that into the field. They do some shitty obfuscation to try and prevent actual hotlinking, but it's not very effective.

well on chrome it works just fine and it gives the direct image link. but you can right click on the full res image and copy image url.

I see. I found out that the direct links are visible in Firefox Network Monitor console, so from now on, I will grab them from there. Thanks for the tips, I should have guessed DA would use something like that.

You can just right-click copy the largest version like the admin said. Unless you find the firefox console easier to work with.

Right-click on the "Download button", select "open link in new tab" => your browser opens the direct image link in a new tab
