Just some straightforward *ear* clean-up.

ear_pulling -> ear_pull
pulling_ear -> ear_pull

earphones -> headphones
ear_phones -> headphones
head_phones -> headphones
earbuds imply headphones

ear_nibbling -> ear_nibble
While you're at it... nibble -> nibbling

ears_laid_back -> ears_back
ears_flicked_back -> ears_back
ear_down -> ears_down
ears_drooped -> ears_down
ears_perked -> ears_up
ear_perk -> ears_up
ears_raised -> ears_up
raised_ears -> ears_up

earpiercing -> ear_piercing
earstuds -> ear_piercing
ear_studs -> ear_piercing
ear_bar -> ear_piercing
ear_gauge -> ear_piercing

ears_hairband -> fake_ears
earlobe -> invalid_tag

ear_holes -> earhole
This gets used for ears without external structure as well as furgonomics stuff (though mostly the former) so perhaps a disambiguation is in order.

I'm feeling motivated tonight, so I'll go through the most obvious ones:

I remember there being some tags related to these piercings, but I can't remember where they are offhand.

I don't know how I feel about these.

My keyboard is seriously glitching on me for some reason :(

Edit: These as well.

I'd say no to that one simple because "Earhole" is singular and "ear_holes" is more than 1.

They're both kind of pointless, but probably not widespread enough to be worth invalidating either.

Maybe if it were only tagged for characters that have ear holes, but no external ears. Scalies, avians, etc. That might be useful.

I'm not sure why it should be tagged for posts such as...

No ear holes, as far as I can see.

Dunno if anyone cares (I don't really), but there's quite the difference between "headphones" and "earphones/-buds".

  • industrial_piercing, while not really an ear piercing, that's where it's mostly used. Basically just two holes and one straight barbell.
  • gauged_ear, just a large gauge ear piercing, most often with a plug as jewelry.

  • earlobe: Meh, neither of those two posts had any earlobes to speak of, I guess it could be interesting in anthros/ferals if it would be tagged properly, but not really...
  • ear_holes: found one post in no_ears, though dunno what to do.

Just don't put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear.

I think some people would care; earbuds should imply headphones. I thought earphones/ear_phones wouldn't be tagged on only earbuds reliably enough though so I suggested an alias to the more inclusive category.

It looks like this one didn't go through. Earbuds is still not aliased or implied to anything.

It's sometimes tagged on things that actually belong in furgonomics. There's holes in the hood for the ears to poke through.

i thought that this was a thread about actual ear cleaning. i am dissapointed :(

Oh hey, looks like the existing alias blocked it and I failed to notice.

Which gives us a second chance I suppose. :V

Thoughts on it before I alias those as well?

Did you know that I have an elevated sense of hearing?

Makes up for the somewhat weaker sense of smell that I possess.

I could see maybe an implication, but I wouldn't personally alias them together. While earbuds vs headphones serve a similar purpose for real life music listening, they optically look very different. And tagging is usually based on appearances.

Headphones have the band overtop connected the ear speakers, which are often bigger and can even entirely cover the ear itself in some cases. Plus they're often used as an accessory, worn with the band hanging around the neck like almost like a necklace. It's almost an art trend/fashion statement.

In contrast, earbuds can be a lot smaller, more subtle (sometimes only noticable on a third glance), and don't have the same fashion statement reasons. They fit inside the ears and usually don't obscure anything, if they're being worn.

I think if we alias them, then earbuds will become harder to search for, especially since they're naturally less visible (even more true if viewing search result thumbs). Also the tags earbuds vs headphones have tended to stay fairly clean in usage, so evidently they're not seen as identical objects by a lot of those who are regularly using these tags in searches.

Overall I'm not convinced everyone searching for one will be equally happy with results containing the other, and I don't see any benefit to aliasing away the distinction. If they must be linked, then at least with an implication people can still specify one over the other if they choose in their searches. So I think that might be the more beneficial option here.

So that would be a -1 from me on aliasing them to each other, unless there's other benefits to an alias for these two tags that I'm not seeing? But I could see an implication of earbuds to --> headphones being somewhat useful. So +1 to the original implication suggestion.

On a related note, I remember earphones usage tended to be a messy mix of both earbuds and headphones, so aliasing that one away was probably for the best.

+1 You've convinced me, and I can go along with an implication.

Edit: I was really bored, added earbuds to all headphones posts featuring mentioned object, so now we got about 200 of them, in case we want to keep the tag (it's growing on me).
