Topic: Tag Alias: labret -> labret_piercing

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Though synonymous with and often used to describe a pierced lower lip, "labret" actually refers to the ornamental object used in the lip piercing (can be anything: stud, ring, bone, disc, etc.). It is already implicated to lip_piercing.

Aliasing labret to "labret_piercing" would seemingly be like aliasing earring to "earring_piercing".

EDIT: Since earring is already aliased to ear_piercing, a more proper course of action may be to alias labret to lip_piercing.

Well, a labret is not really very well defined in itself, it may be a lower or upper lip piercing, may refer to the piercing or the jewelery. In fact the word is just a variation of labrum aka lip.

Commonly the jewelry for a labret piercing would be a labret stud (unless wearing a plug). This is mainly to avoid rubbing of the piercing onto the gum if one would e.g. use a regular bar bell or similar. Hence I don't really see the problem with using labret_piercing since we don't really tag jewelry anyway. Besides, you can't see if someone is actually wearing a labret stud from the outside. But... It's a really small issue so I won't fight it, but those are my thoughts.
